more updates...

here's a better article from the spokesman on the ceremony:

you can see the new rendering behind the mayor:

315 feet to the top of a large roof spire.

Reminds me of the Mormon temple in New York City.

^^^ Ummmm...the parking structure comprising the base of the Zions Tower is about the same size as the New York City Temple...you have a very vivid imagination.

315' is very good news, noticeably the new tallest.

Geez, the red tape that this city puts developers through drives me CRAZY! This is a beautiful highrise, let it stick out as much as they want! I find it odd that the city approved previous highrises of 25ish levels on that same land, but objected this one being built to 20??

This is really going to block the view of the foothills from some of those expensive Aspen Lofts condos, but what do you expect when you build downtown right?

Not sure how much resemblance I see between this and Zion's Bank Tower...

Oh, it was just the placement of the spire that I thought was similar, which is why it came to mind. Of course there are plenty of buildings that have corner spires... Would this building still be the tallest without the spire?

i've read that the spire rises 40' above the roofline, which would make the roofline 275'.

so this building would still be the tallest in the city by 8' even without the spire.

Congrats on the height and the filling of the hole. I can't wait to see pictures of this rise.

Haha, actually I can totally see similarities between the 8th & Main tower and the LDS temple in NY. Those vertical window lines and the same stepped corner spire. Either way I don't give a crap. It's their design, they can make it resemble whatever they want, it looks fantastic.

Anyone who thinks there are similarities between the two, except maybe the spire which is still a stretch, has to be shrooming.

interesting bit of tid from this weekend's KTVB story regarding the timing:

Quote:
"You'll see a crane go up, and it will be pretty quiet, through the fall," Nelson said. "We'll be down here in the hole, hidden behind the fence, getting the foundation systems in and the basement. We'll start steel in the late fall, early spring, and that's when it will get exciting. We'll turn a floor a week, and crank through it."
sounds like the crane will be up this fall, but we won't see this thing rise until next spring.

he also confirmed that the tower will be completed by january 2014.

It's the parking aspect of the building that will cause it to rise slower. Once the parking garage is built, the building will shoot up like a weed.

Just curious...why would it take so long to build a parking garage?

Concrete takes longer VS Steel.

Ah should have thought of that! Didn't even cross my mind at the time I had posted that. Don't you mean Concrete? Lol considering that would be one heck of a long concert for the time that it would take that much concrete to cure.

That's odd. I did write the word "Concrete". Must of been the spell check trying to guess what I was trying to spell and place "concert" instead without me knowing. I should just turn that off. Oh well....as long as you know what I meant that's what matter.

It's a really big impact for the subcontracting community in the Valley," said Nelson. "These larger projects really help out the local community. I would estimate that it will generate between 300 to 400 local jobs."

But can this thing really be ready for a ribbon-cutting by January of 2014? Neil says, "yes."

"You'll see a crane go up, and it will be pretty quiet, through the fall," Nelson said. "We'll be down here in the hole, hidden behind the fence, getting the foundation systems in and the basement. We'll start steel in the late fall, early spring, and that's when it will get exciting. We'll turn a floor a week, and crank through it."

there's been a small crew working in the pit every day since the ceremony.

looks like they're removing the old concrete walls now. won't be long until the pit is nothing but dirt just begging for a new foundation.
