You guys realize this has now become a thread about complaining about people complaining about this project over and over again?

Great presence from that view. I hope that they do some good lighting with the crown. It will light that area up well.

Eh might also be bc the precast is so drab? bc the other buildings don’t look like they’re covered in dust

^ They almost went out of their way to make sure the color matched the old paint job at the Apparel Center.

Also, had to look up what a haboob was, lol.

I think its not as 'yellow'as the Apparel was but that being said do you prefer the new color? I think the grey looks worse.

OBP does look better in person and in the end we get a (very well designed) park, an 800 ft tower with no parking podium and a lot more apartments added to a somewhat sleepy corner of Streeterville.

I know I'm in the minority opinion here.

I'd say you are probably in the majority. Most people on SSP like OBP from what I can tell.

Honestly, OBP isn't a terrible building. It just looks really bland, although I'm hoping the crown helps with that. The fact that Related Midwest controls this project and has a history of cheapening out on materials and eliminating expensive design elements doesn't really help.

And to answer your question, I think I prefer the Apparel Center with its new blue paint job, although that may only be because its been yellow/tan for so long that anything different feels like an improvement.

I have to admit the pre-cast is a disappointment especially when contasted with the base. Its too bad that an all stone cladding seems wishfull thinking in Chicago these days on tall buildings. Maybe if 400 LSD gets built Related won't VE the terracotta away...

Really looks great in this shot - the way the shadows play on the vertical elements and how it looks in the skyline.
