Absolutely. One of the very best in Canada.

If you like your buildings fat, sure

All kidding aside don't get me wrong, there's nothing wrong with that or PVM (I think its decent, but not quite one of Canada's best).
But its just not for everyone, just as not every guy will dig a chick with some extra meat.

Yikes, not a fan. I would even put Tour CIBC before that one.

I've never been a huge fan of PVM, but I enjoy the classic feel of golden era North American capitalism that it gives off. Boxy, monolithic forms like this (and especially Toronto's TD Centre and Commerce Court West) from the 60's and 70's really scream "big city bussines". Think of Manhatten's Avenue of the Americas. Not every city can show off hulking towers of that era.

As far as I'm concerned Canada only has one iconic office tower and that's PVM.
I love PVM but whether you love it or hate it, it is the only office tower in the country that everybody knows.

I can't imagine many people outside of Montreal who aren't skyscraper enthusiasts would know PVM by name. Then again I can't imagine there is one building in Canada that everyone knows the name of.

Yup, I don't think First Canadian Place or Scotia Plaza would make the cut either. Really, the only building I can think of that fits the bill is the CN Tower, which technically isn't even a building.

Maybe the Calgary Tower too, but only because the name is easy to remember.

Its a bit sad really. Canada has no Empire State Building. Maybe the Bow will gain some widespread familiarity? (Probably not; not enough exposure in Calgary.)

I could see it being more famous in the past. Construction on PVM began in 1958. Back then it would have been quite unique in Canada.

Now that I think about it, I can't really think of a country other than the U.S. that has a skyscraper (not a tower or other landmark) that is recognized and known by name across the world or even country. Shanghai World Finance centre is the closest thing I can come up with.

Edit: Burj Khalifa might soon fit this criteria if it doesn't already.
