Possibly, but the studio is mostly interior work, and it looks like it will only occupy one bay of the street frontage. I think the scaffolding is for facade work... you can see the hanging platform up at the cornice.

What's so great about this Poetry Foundation? It looks just like the black 70's parking garage by the Trump tower. It looks pretty bland.

^In the way that tuxedo trousers resemble black jeans from 1000 feet away, perhaps.

Though now that I think about it, that IBM parking garage attempted elegance in its own muscular Cor-Ten–clad way. I can't complain about either building.

That was just my roundabout attempt at praising i_am_hydrogen's photog skills. Compliment fail. -_-

To be honest, I thought Wrigley building was a mostly vacant building and waiting for a big moment to renovate the whole thing....similar to the London Guarantee which renovated / restored top to bottom 10 years ago.

Weird, how long has that been there? It wasnt there in 2008 and I hope it isnt there in 2012. Its pretty tacky. It's like something you would expect to see in downtown Hot Springs or Las Vegas in front of a Ripleys Believe It or Not "Museum".

They just put it there a few weeks ago. I don't think it is permanent, since the same artist (from NJ) had the American Gothic statue there that is now gone.

And yeah. Kinda tacky.

Another view from the front.
Tacky, yes, but very well received. This icon of Marilyn is a hit with the people. This sculpture gets way more attention than last years American Gothic or the Picasso, Miro, Dubuffet, Calder, Oldenburg, Chagall and the bean. Well maybe not the bean. Just shows art doesn't have to have good taste to taste good with the masses.

Burberry is going to completely change that corner. I'm really interested in seeing how this turns out.

Looking forward to the Burberry project.^ I feel the pain of all those loosing their Michigan Ave. views in the 142 East Ontario building.

I wonder what Wrigley plans to do with the former Lakeshore Athletic Club.
---

Latest Esquire plans:

First floor will have retail space for five tenants; exterior design based on the store's identity. Existing second floor will be removed to expand interior ceiling heights. Commercial space on the "new" second and third floors. New granite planters consistent with the ones recently installed in the area.

Overall, I'm happy. The owner was not even obligated to do this much. Even though I'd prefer a more sensitive renovation, they could have just demolished the whole thing and put up a bunch of ugly "contextual brownstones" like in the original plan. This is much better in my opinion.
