Red face TORONTO | 2444 Yonge St | 331 FT, 272 FT / 101 M, 83 M | 27, 21 FLOORS

A substantial chunk of Yonge street fronting land will be redeveloped soon for a pair of residential twers with retail at the base. At this time, there's ongoing demolition occuring in one of the former storefronts in this plot, with two stores out of the 5 that are/were on this assembled plot still open.

Several years ago a historic bank building was demolished on the site, and is presently a gravel lot (with a "ghost" kitchen now there). Unfortunately, that means there's less of an opportunity to ensure heritage resources are retained in this development and fine-grain programming is enforced here.

I took these images a few hours ago of the largest building on the site now being demolished:

I took these two days ago, 2400 Yonge street, a former car dealership, is being demolished. Two stores remain open along this stretch that the proposal covers:

The remaining storefronts have all vacated except this coffee shop, and this notice was put up recently....I took this yesterday:

It looks like we'll see more movement on site this year. Thank god, because this block is looking terrible now.

I took these today, the crews are actively demolishing the interiors of the remaining buildings, and some excavation is now starting on the south end of the site:

This is a new rendering for the site, which was posted in a resubmission for the site in November:

There's also an article here describing some points about the ownership of the site and details around how they designed it:

I took these yesterday morning. The last of the buildings were being demolished, and as of yesterday evening, just the one stood, but with a now expanded hole near the to-be-retained facade.

With the snowy weather, the site was a ghost town (yester)day.
