This is the closest thing to the Chicago Spire we're ever gonna get.

Big Apple, thank you so much for all of these photos. I'd been waiting for some more substantial cladding on this thing; my impressions when it first when up were not great. I think I still like it more from afar than up close, and I like it a lot more now, but that could definitely change as more is added. That is some remarkably clear glass.

I wonder if the appearance of the outer cladding will change when the inner cladding is added.

No problem.

It's also time this building got more attention. It'll be the SECOND tallest in the WORLD when completed.

Here's more where that come from.

The cladding looks average, IMO.

Maybe, but I think you're missing the point. Right now, the cladding looks dull and lifeless. But go back and look at the renderings. There are really two layers of cladding... the thin veil of an exterior skin, and then the true building inside... the core. The exterior cladding is supposed to appear nearly transparent in order to show off the "building inside a building." So yeah... right now it looks thin and unimpressive, because it's showing the concrete interior that still under construction.

Give it some time... I think you'll find out later it's going to be terribly impressive.

My opinion about the cladding. The good and the bad.

The Good:
• The curved glass motif is pretty cool. The way it spirals up the building and has the groove accenting it is nice.
• The use of outer glass to enclose sky lobbies will make being on those public floors a great experience.
• The lighting is very reminiscent of Blade Runner... just in time for the year 2017.

The Bad:
• Having that outer layer of glass will seriously diminish the views of the people inside the building. They'll have to look through two layers of glass and all kinds of reflections caused by interior lighting at night and sunlight during the day.
• The sky lobby floor-plates will block the views from the offices, especially on the floors closest to the sky lobbies.
• Those views will be blocked when looking down as well as up.

I think the architect(s) put more thought into how this building will look on the skyline than what it will be like for the majority of the people in the building.
