I really like the impact Aspira is having - it's set far enough away from the density of the other new towers that to me its effect on the skyline is very profound. The curtain wall they chose is a great color too. So the Heron / Pagoda towers are really still a go?? That's great news if so....though it would be even better to get some more of the parking lot expanse in the Denny Triangle developed moreso IMO- I hope those twin towers gather momentum at some point

Several other twins are going up in the triangle, far as I know-- but mostly in the 350' range.

Insignia, unfortunately, doesn't have much movement. Sigh.

The twin proposals I'm remembering go to approximately 550', 440', 400', and 240'.

No, they are not a go. That website is marketing the sale of the land to prospective developers, it's not marketing the project itself. What a shame, that was one of the most exciting projects to get proposed in Seattle in a long time. It would've been Seattle's equivalent of Lincoln Square.

Yup, it's not a go... yet. But for sure it will be built in the near future. At least I hope so.

But sometimes I don't want it to be built since I envy Escala and those who inhabit it. Doesn't make sense right? I know, but I really want Escala to keep all it's views because it's one of the best residential highrises Seattle has seen in a long time. Maybe even one of the best looking Seattle has ever seen!

I kind of agree....I like Escala, semi-tacky base structure and all. The color of the glass really sets it off. I think it's a great addition.

My favorites are 1521 Second and Aspira, in terms of residential. I'm underwhelmed with Olive8 since I thought the crown would be lit up, but it's not.

Me too, Olive 8 is pretty underwhelming. The egg shapes don't read at all, crown not lit, its an unadorned box with interesting glass curtain wall.

Aspira came out better than the rendering by a long shot and Olive 8 came out worse. Escala just has a huge presence, it just feels massive. 1521 has a great effect on the skyline from the sound side and is my favorite of the recent lot.

My pick of the new residential high-rises from "best" to "lesser best"

1. Escala
2. 1521
3. Aspira
4. 5th and Madison
5. Olivian
6. Olive 8

I like 7th and Madison......would have liked it a lot more if it was about 3-4x taller, but decent low rise nonetheless. Sounds like Rollin Street is going to rentals....I wouldn't mind being able to rent on the streetcar line.

Damn it! I wish I had my camera today. It was such a pretty day and construction around town looked amazing!

Is this the end of Heron/Pagoda?

Quote:
Heron and Pagoda Towers project close to foreclosure
Posted on April 28 2009

The Seattle Times reported that the proposed mega twin-tower project, Heron and Pagoda Towers, at 5th Avenue and Stewart is in trouble with the possibility the property will be foreclosed.

About half the site of the proposed Heron and Pagoda towers will be sold to the highest bidder in June unless the developer pays off a past-due loan on the property, according to a notice filed with King County.

New York developer Multi Capital Group filed permit applications for two 550-foot towers with 1.2 million square feet of condos, retail, hotel and office space. But the project was postponed indefinitely last year, one of many victims of the faltering economy and credit crunch.

Now G4 Capital Partners, a New York lender, says a Multi Capital affiliate has defaulted on $13.7 million it borrowed in 2007 to help buy three of the five parcels that make up the project site.

Unless the debt is paid, those properties, which total about 0.37 acre, will be sold at auction in Bellevue on June 19, according to a public notice filed on G4’s behalf last month.

The Olivian also updated it's website.

While I really, really liked Heron, I never thought it would ever be built. This news just confirms my suspicions.

I guess the new city hall by Foster will be the next really tall one to go up in Seattle?

Hm, I didn't know that the Foster project was to be the new city hall building.
Either way, haven't heard more about it in a few months.

The Foster project isn't the new City Hall. It's located on the western block of the three block civic complex that includes the new Public Safety Building, the new City Hall, and a public park/plaza on the south side of the block the Foster building is going on. The Foster building itself will include privately owned/leased office and condo space (at least last I heard).

I wasn't surprised to see Heron not moving forward - that project seemed iffy even at the height of the boom.

Well I still hope they change the Civic Square design. I feel like they can do better than that. Specially for a building that will have an impact on the skyline.

Anyways, I took some pictures of Skyline at First Hill yesterday afternoon.
