Looks like they're just moving a bunch of dirt around! When are they going to build something?

Sea Scouts bring home big catch Below:

updated 5/29/2012 11:45:53 AM ET 2012-05-29T15:45:53
Print Font: +-West Sacramento's waterfront has a big, new addition.

A 125-foot-long, former Coast Guard cutter, dubbed the SSS Morris, docked Monday afternoon at its new home just south of the Highway 50 bridge.

"It's a great excitement. Probably one of the nicest-looking boats that's been up here for permanent berthing in quite a while," said John Turner of West Sacramento.

The SSS Morris was recently taken over by the West Sacramento chapter of the Sea Scouts, a branch of the Boy Scouts of America.

The scouts and their leaders spent three days navigating the ship from its old port in Napa.

According to the Sea Scouts' website, the SSS Morris was built in 1927 and originally served to intercept alcohol traffickers during Prohibition.

Since 1971, it has been used by Sea Scouts for maritime training for young adults 13 to 20 years old.

Are you sure it wasn't already built in the 70's or 80's?

I found a picture of their receptionist. Look out Nippon-Shokken, the era of sexual harassment lawsuits is coming...

The image looks outdated but it's great that West Sac is attracting jobs and business

Yup. The spiked black iron fence around the whole enclosure do give it that extra special something.

I'm still crossing my fingers for a Sacramento/West Sac streetcar to give some impetus for this kind of facility to be built with a zero lot line approach--if there has to be a parking lot, put it in back by the truck loading zone! It's nice to have a few more manufacturing jobs, we're seeing a few of those on our side of the river too, as well as small corporate HQs moving in. Every little bit helps--but in a much smaller city like West Sacramento it makes for a bigger proportional difference.

Yeah, I'd love to see the designs as well. Anyone willing or able to go the planning commission meeting to snatch up any materials?

This a very good news. I don't want to be critical but it seems like the site would be more appropriate for mid-risers. But it's a lot better than 'better than nothing' so I'll shut up. Moving forward.

Wow that is a huge development! An entire block of 4-story buildings going up, will be a nice fit for that currently barren waste just north of the ball park.

The neat part will be the "Phase 2" - but I guess we shouldn't get excited about that until Phase 1 is up and filled :|

Representatives of the pro football team and Raley Field have scheduled a Monday news conference to discuss the Mountains Lions’ third season. Until then, mum’s the word — at least officially …
