Crimes against heritage are standard in Hamilton. Here's another one to add to the list:

Goodbye pre-confederate stone rows at the freaking centre of downtown's most busy intersection.

I was curious to get an update from Ontarians on the demolition in downtown Brantford (all articles online seem to be from summer of 2010, and they say the province wants to stop the city from doing it)...

I just found out Google Street View has the "update" I wanted... (not the one I expected)

Personally, I do not know of any bigger facepalm moment in Canadian urbanism...

Unbelievable... There isn't a single surface parking lot left to fill in the entire Hamilton area?!?!? (And even if there weren't, there'd STILL be plenty of things to tear down before 150 years old stone rows...)

That's just ridiculous.

Hamilton, Ontario - Stoney Creek Dairy

The historic Stoney Creek Dairy is an icon of the town of Stoney Creek in Hamilton, but like most historic buildings in Hamilton it is being torn down. Demolition is starting this week. I'll update with some demolition photos in a few days...

Shame, that's a nice looking building.

I'm sure it must have looked a lot more run down than in that photo by the time it was demolished (feel free to correct me on that), but one of the biggest asthetic problems with Southcore in my opinion is that there's too much glass and not enough stone. A building like this would be very welcome.

A shame, but this thread is about buildings currently being demolished or threatened

interestingly, the city of Montreal tried its best to prevent the demolition of the Old Port Fire station, but it's the Old Port Society, a federal institution, who had the last word. Being on a federal historic site, it could do what it wants with the building, regardless of the city's position. All this, just to make more parkings.

Geez, it's like Old Toronto in the 60's... Razed neighbourhoods of midrise historic buildings for surface parking lots.

What Houston pic? I'd like to see.

Omg that Toronto pic looks like a dystopian nightmare.

The Hamilton of today is almost as bad, I'd say there are probably more than 10 city blocks downtown that are nearly all parking lot.

Wow never seen that pic before. What year is that?

Jesus, Insane how much nicer Old Montreal looks today. Thank goodness they moved most of the port facilities out east, it really does make a difference!

Agreed. But it's nice that we preserved this gorgeous Art Deco warehouse, turned into condos.
