Tribeca and others, Saturday afternoon.

It'll take a little while to form the Tribeca 1st floor/mezz and the 2nd floor - then it'll take off. I spotted a few other sites nearby, too :-)

so many cranes in the area, that's something from science-fiction for Ottawa... is this our new reality?

it's awesome looking...just too bad they are all going to be typical ottawa stumps that won't even stick out from anywhere but right in front of them.

Well, Tribeca will make a pretty big impact 180 degrees south, 150 Elgin will go a long way by bridging the gap between Place Bell and the rest of the CBD.

Granted 90 Elgin will only have an impact on downtown's east elevation and the Merit will only peak out from behind City Hall (because of the angle when looking at city hall from the ground).

Now that they're at ground level, working on the first floor, it will indeed be nice to see them start to take off from there.

But we are getting two towers and a mid rise out of the same excavation. It was probably the deepest whole in Ottawa in 30 years.

But the Lorne with a similar footprint (although they already had a hole to start with) only took a year to get to street level.

There were more than a few delays once the whole started. If my memory is correct, the Fall after they started (Fall 2010?), construction basically came to a halt, and then again the following Spring (Spring 2011?). It was a large and deep hole, but 2 years is a little long considering they isn't anything too special, unique, or difficult to built about a parking garage. But I posted on here before, Claridge, who are self-funding this project, started construction well before the normal 60-70% sales to attract attention - with all the competition from other downtown condos (Merit, SoHo, Re, Central, Gotham, etc...) they had to do something to get noticed.

Walked by the site late last week. Looks like they're starting on Floor #2 of tower #1. I also noticed that they appear to be finishing up floor #1 of tower #2. Not clear whether the plan is to build both towers in parallel?

Fun fact - the builder of the Medical Arts Building (1900, seen in the right of the above pic) was the first person in Ottawa to own a car.

That's cool! Do you know this person's name?

I've always loved the Medical Arts Building. I actually think (& hope) that its architecture will stand out better in contrast to Tribeca across the street than it did to an empty parking lot.

I think it's a cool building, too. For the life of me though I can't find the article I read about a year ago.

Anyone know if they are planning on building both towers simultaneously? Or are they simply getting the entire podium done followed by tower 1?
