After two days at sea, we arrived at Alesund, Norway, a coastal city of 47,000. The city burned down in 1904, and was rebuilt with stunning Art Nouveau architecture. A true gem!

This is precisely some type of contemporary architecture I'd like to see built on my suburban boulevards.

There is still some room for this kind of things right here, a couple of miles away from Central Paris.
Unfortunately, locals keep thinking of modernism as something ghettoish, traumatized as they are by the sloppy 1960's developments.
So they're building fake things trying to look historic, but completely failing at it.

That's too bad... Good to see the Scandinavians won't do the same mistake.
Their recent historical background isn't quite the same as ours, though.

Our next stop was Eidfjord, Norway, a town of 900 people. To get here, we had to travel through the Hardangerfjord, the second longest fjord in Norway at 111 miles. Tourism is very important here - camping, kayaking, hiking, etc.

This is the easternmost point on the cruise.

Well, we arrived at the halfway point of the cruise - Rotterdam. I don't think I mentioned it, but we were on the msRotterdam so this was a special port for the ship!

We went to a church service and met up with some friends in the morning, and took us to Gouda (pronounced How-da). This is where Gouda cheese is from, and was also home to Erasmus during his early years.

No visit to the Netherlands is complete without seeing some windmills, right? The 2nd day in Rotterdam started out with a visit to Kinderdijk.

After Kinderdijk, we had to hurry back to the ship for an early afternoon departure. On the way, we quickly stopped to take a picture of the first skyscraper in Rotterdam - the Witte Huis.

To begin the second half of the cruise, we had a day at sea before arriving in Dublin. We were here two days: the first day we went on a tour of County Wicklow and had dinner downtown, and the second day was spent sightseeing in town.

I'm sure you can guess the route from now on, but I'll keep putting the maps in:
