That goes double for me.

What happen to the original design? That was so much better. I don't see how they're going to squeeze this monster onto that small site. Surely it will have to run horizontal to the street, (long ways). If so that will likely cause some horrible view obstructions of the skyline from the Tower of the Americas. I don't believe it, I was so pumped about it. It still will be nice to see some highrise action. Denver's convention center hotel which looks be similar in floor heights is 420 feet to the mainroof, and 489 feet to the spire. And it has 38 floors.

I actually like Denver's convention center hotel, most of the convention center hotels that have been built recently have been pretty craptastic, but Denver got away with a good one. Our's is starting to grow on me as a nice big tower addition to the skyline. And the color is actually pretty nice in the afternoon/evening with the sunset.

I don't think it looks bad. In fact I think it looks nice. Your not likely to see a hotel be constructed as an iconic structure for any city since they are under such tight $$$ budget constraints. So design considerations are usually conservative.

Question for the SA forumers though.

Why is this rendering of the CC Hotel just being made public?

Aren't renderings and plans made public prior to approval and especailly construction for public review?

Also isn't the city of SA investing money in this project? It seems as if they would have known what was going to be built.

Anyway I still think the hotel is nice and will look good on the skyline. Towers don't have to be 60 stories to look good.
It's going to bring alot of energry to the street level and add to the fabric of DT SA.

It's definently not going to be as gaudy as what we had before.

^ Yeah, but the original, gaudy one, that "pipe organ" design, big monster, it was proposed for a different location. It would have gone up on the otherside of the convention center, and also would have expanded the Riverwalk. This proposal won't.

And my gripe with the building is not height, but design.

You know I guess we should just be glad that San Antonio is getting a project of this magnitude. At least its not over the top or completely ugly, although it is very VERY bland. It will add some nice height.

So far they haven't mentioned anything about that, but 2 of San Antonio's 3 existing Hyatt hotels are "Regency hotels".

If I'm not wrong about this the rendering is blurry because Mopacs enlarged it before posting it. The original rendering on Faulkner's website is smaller and more clear. If you notice the one he posted is hosted on his fotki album.

I have friends in the area, I use to live in the area, I am from the ghetto, I am around that area a lot. Trust me, it's in a ghetto area. Actually, the ghetto area is only to the west of the SBC center. To the north is a highway, east a golf course and south industrial area.

It's ghetto because most of the people are black?

You do know that in terms of 911 calls and reported violence the south and southwest sides lead the city.

Yeah, I resampled/enlarged the rendering off Faulker's site, as its a little on the small side. Its blurry because I blew it up to about 2.5x its original size. The original is part of a Flash site, so I could not hotlink the image. It is clearer on their site: http://www.faulknerusa.com/home.html (click on "portfolio" and its the first project that appears)

Not quite, the Hyatt is about 4 blocks or so from the Alamo. You can see the Hyatt here in the middle right of this picture. The tree lined street to the right of the picture is Alamo Plaza. About 3 blocks down that street is the Alamo, (outside this picture to the right).

Kevin it is one block from the Hyatt to the Alamo. Back when they built the Hyatt they extended the faux river through that building, under Losoya street to the east....tore out a buildings betwen Losaya and Alamo Plaza and built a pass through with water and Margarita Stand and you walk right up to Almamo Plaza.

Picture from the deck on the Hyatt from their webpage. (anyone notice that the big pink monster is missing?)
