Not a super-duper exciting video of Red Deer, but Taylor Drive is a fairly important road for the city, so I thought I would film it. I have some more interesting Red Deer videos coming soon.

AB Highway 211 Red Deer

just my idea on what red deer should have in the highway network like in Edmonton and Calgary, though I know this would most likely never happen I want to hear some thoughts on the idea.

I don't understand the NW corner? Why not use QEII for the west portion of the ring road? Most of Red Deer is east of QEII.

And Hwy 11A is already planned to cross the Red Deer River, and head south, I believe all the way to 595 or maybe further south to connect up to QEII.

Some of this work has already been done: http://www.parklandgeo.com/uploads/f...NHC%202014.pdf

In the NW I was thinking about future development west of red deer, as for Highway 11A I wasn't aware of the development what was going on

The North Highway Connector project is Red Deer's version of a ring road. Probably the largest road project I may ever see for the city. It's got a 25 year timeline or something.

Are you guys locals???

^ I'm not. I'm living in Edmonton, but I'm interested in highway projects across the province.

My gf and I went to Hudsons Pub the other day and as we left, I got this pic from the bottom of SEP towers south side. (The food was good too!)

I believe that the new roundabout construction at the intersection of 67th Street/Orr Drive/Johnstone Drive has officially started. The large roundabout at 67th Street/30 Ave is in the process of being aligned with the existing roadway so it's pretty nasty for construction around there.

New website for the upcoming QEII/Taylor/Gaetz interchange. 3 year construction period. Going to be a very big deal for us here in Red Deer.

At 7 am this morning, the 30th Ave/67th St roundabout mostly opened to traffic. I took a cruise through shortly after.

It's going to be a beautiful thing!

Looks like the City of Red Deer is going all LED for streetlights.

^ Nice! The different spectrum takes some getting used to, but they do direct light much better and produce noticeably less light pollution.

Good move. The City of Edmonton started this a number of years ago, and it has worked very well.

Its also easier to see pedestrians and cyclist at night.

St Albert is voting to go this route as well. It would save a million or more a year.

A southbound animation of the project has suddenly appeared on the website. An animation that I have been waiting to see for a while now. It includes the Gaetz flyover, the SB collector ramps, and new roundabout. Going to be so amazing!!!!

Animations can be found here:

The economic reality is taking its toll on Red Deer. The municipal census results released today revealed the special 100,000 population mark is no longer. The population declined under it.

It was 100807. It's now 99832.

First time in 46 years for a decline.

Lethbridge is hot on the heels of Red Deer to be Alberta's third largest city. Their population increased to 96828.

Unfortunately it's probably not a huge surprise. Red Deer is still very dependant on the energy industry and that is really struggling right now. My employer recently closed it's shop in Red Deer.

Interesting video. A place in Red Deer has converted their roof into a "Green Roof." I didn't know it existed until finding this video.

For the past couple months, there has been a flurry of activity where the proposed Southpointe Junction is going. A lot of utilities construction it looks like.

I just got off the phone with the City of Red Deer. They couldn't really tell me much about it other than Lowes is planning on being the big box store in there. And there have been some other permits completed for that area as well.

This article I found is regarding Lowes. It's old tho... May 2015.

I did speak to Qualico about it but I'm waiting for a call back from someone with more knowledge.
