I left the top message open in case this thread actually becomes a thing and someone wants to add header info.

Does anyone know if there has been any talk about improving highway 519 between Granum and highway 23? It's the main route when going south for heading to Lethbridge, yet you go from a 4 lane divided highway to a 2 lane undivided one to get to the largest city in the south end of the province. It seems very odd that it's not improved to the point of being comparable to Highway 2.

I think the Province wants everyone to use the 4 lane Highway 3 for the east-west movement. I know there are plans for a Ft. MacLeod by-pass.
You can see from your map how far out of the way south the Highway 3 route goes though.

Although really it doesn't go any further south than Lethbridge, it's the fact it then bends back north that is the main issue. If there was a straighter route from Ft MacLeod to Lethbridge then highway 3 would make more sense.

Is there that little in the way of population centers that a highway going in a more straight line between Fort MacLeod and Lethbridge doesn't exist? Highway 3 seems like a huge detour.

I should have looked at a map first. Looks like there's literally nothing and most of the area is the Blood 148 reserve.

Granum should pull a Nanton and line their entire northern boundary with shops and services.

Probably wouldn't hurt.

I did find something but it's for between Highway 23 and Highway 25--18km of repaving tentatively scheduled for the 2017-2020 time period.

It might seem odd, but then factor in Crowsnest Pass the link to BC, it makes more sense to twin Highway 3 over 519. I use 519 pretty much every time over 3.

My wishlist:

QEII needs 6 lanes from Blackfalds (Hwy597) to Penhold overpass (Hwy42).
2A needs twinning from Red Deer to Blackfalds.
2A needs twinning from Penhold to Red Deer.
2A needs twinning from Blackfalds to Lacombe.
11A needs twinning and interchanges from QEII to 2A.
11A needs twinning from Sylvan Lake to QEII.
Also wouldn't mind a Diverging Diamond over QEII on the Hwy11 overpass.

I knocked this one off my wishlist as it's being built.
Gaetz/QEII interchange rebuild in Red Deer.

QEII needs 6 lanes from Leduc to Airdrie.

Eventually. And it seems to be the way it's going with the current widening north of Airdrie.

But Blackfalds to Penhold needs immediate attention.

With a limited budget, I'd say there are other priorities like 6 laning SW Henday and finishing our ring road. I'd agree with the previous poster about 6 laning the Red Deer section quickly too though.

^ Yes the whole thing needs to be three lanes each way. I think they're plugging away at it, starting on the Calgary side

Was just through Jasper park coming back from the shack in the Cariboo, They're down to one bridge under construction and the re-surfacing is all done. I can't believe I'm writing this but it was almost an enjoyable drive through the park, after so many delays over the summer.

Still wish they'd twin 16 to the BC border, but I don't think we'll see that in the time we'll be here

At least finish to the park gate and add a gate by-pass like Banff, for those of us with passes.

^ I don't know why they were even stopping people at the gates this year, being free access to the park. They did have the west gates freeflowing the last two times we were through though.

I would like to see bypasses at the gates as well, that would be a start

Last few years I was going in early before 10am so the gate was no issue. but have seen some days when the traffic is backed up 1/2 way to Overlander lodge.

Looks like the first bridge structure is set to open to traffic tomorrow at QEII/Gaetz. (For at least a little bit of time.)

Southbound Highway 2 traffic approaching Hwy2A/Taylor Drive will be temporarily detoured onto the recently completed bridge structure over Taylor Drive as of Tuesday, November 7, 2017

^Are there any plans to 6-lane Highway 2 around Red Deer (Gasoline Alley to say Lacombe) in the next ten years ?
