Winnipeg Transit Improves Routes in NW Winnipeg

Effective Sunday, April 15, Winnipeg Transit will introduce a number of spring schedule changes as well as several route changes in northwest Winnipeg.

Those route changes are as follows:

17 McGregor New service hours and routing through the Maples and Amber Trails. Click here for details.

28 Brookside Express Cancelled express stop westbound Notre Dame at McPhillips.

30 Inkster Park Express NEW route. Click here for details.

31 Keewatin Express Cancelled express stop westbound Notre Dame at McPhillips.

34 McPhillips Super Express Revised route. Click here for details.

35 Maples Super Express Revised route.
Click here for details.

36 Northwest Super Express Cancelled express stops. Click here for details.

71 Arlington "via McPhillips" NEW Sunday/Holiday service.

In summary Winnipeg Transit is revising 8 transit routes serving NW Winnipeg. The Route 17 McGregor gets a longer route, extending more service to the Maples. Most express routes lose bus stops, including current stops such as "Notre Dame westbound at McPhillips", and several stops on McPhillips in the North End between Selkirk and Burrows westbound.

What transit should really do is add another bus or two on the 11 / Kildonan route during evenings.

Even at 10:00 pm on a weekday the bus is still standing room only.

It's very frustrating waiting for a bus outside the U of W and watching empty Island Lake's bound buses leave with as much frequency as they do.

I agree with you that at sometimes popular routes like the 11 Portage/Kildonan need more service.

BTW, the 16 Selkirk/Osborne which serves Island Lakes at 10:00pm doesn't
go by the U of W. [Its route through downtown is on Main St, the Graham Av Transit Mall, Vaughan St, York Av (EB)/St Mary Av (WB) and Osborne St.]

once again the 77 (that passes through medows west and to polo park and back EK ) get sucky ass hours.

did you know from end-to-end Route 77 (Crosstown North) takes 88 minutes from Kildonan Place to Polo Park, but a 1-connection routing via downtown can take less than 60 minutes at midday on a weekday.

I can't really call the latest changes an "improvement". It just stretches the bus service even thinner.

With 30 cleaning up what 34 and 35 left behind, it's going to be a bit of a stretch for the service. Adding Super into 34 and 35 wouldn't make a difference in terms of "faster" service, at least in my opinion.

Ohh I believe that..

It was the longest day of my life the day I accidentally took that bus from Polo Park.

The Ridership is null, and it just takes you on a scenic ride through the Maples and East Kildonan.

I can't help but to think that this bus might be more useful if it was an express bus between regional shopping centres such as Polo Park ->Garden City -> Kildonan Place.

If you could travel between those centres without stopping this route would have real merit.

If I needed to go some place specific I could just transfer on to a local feeder route at Kildonan Place or Polo Park.
