The professor who informed us of this history pointed out that this very same fire wall now does an amazingly good job of keeping tourists out of Monti despite its close proximity to the forum! It's an easy neighborhood to miss if you aren't looking for it, but it is absolutely priceless and, in my opinion, a must see area when in Rome.
seems like decisions taken 2000 years ago still influence today's urban fabric and human behavior. very interesting, thanks! funny how a small hill and and separate parts of an ancient wall scare lazy tourists.

These photos are just so amazing I love how there are tropical trees and temperate trees growing next to each other! And how there are so many historic buildings I just have to go to Rome someday, but for now it is practically in another dimension for me
Anyway, thanks for sharing your beautiful photography with us

great pictures! i am there right now.

with food, you just have to be a bit choosy. the good restaurants (i don't mean the most high-end, but just the good ones) are really amazing — as good as any food city. the food has absolutely been a highlight for me. from salumeria roscioli to il timoniere to ginger to this tiny spot i just chanced upon in borgo called makasar bistrot, i have eaten well. but i have also fucked up and overpaid for lame imitation-roman... i actually did just that this morning in prati, right on the south side of this square:

it's hard when there are so many tourists.

Very nice shots. I love Rome; it's one of my favorite cities. I've been lucky and had locals to direct me to good restaurants. Amazing food. I mean, it's Italy and meals are obviously a big part of the culture.

Oh well, why not preaching sometimes, after all?

Rome is fabulous and these pics are especially good. I really love Rome's color palette and the low-key feel, for a city with such massive importance.

I would say, speaking generally, the food in Rome is fantastic. I had some mediocre meals in the Centro Storico, but that's entirely my fault. Generally speaking it's very easy to eat well.

A feast for the eyes! Great views from all those narrow streets - for me, an old, narrow street + a hill at the end + a stone pine on top of the hill = Italy!
