gaudy, over-dominating, even somewhat tacky, but very interesting nevertheless. There is really nothing quite like it. \

I love the way the Makkah sky looks at dusk. I really would love to visit, but as a non-muslim, I suppose that it is impossible.

The building will be iconic - i think they should increase the height to 611.7 meters 2007 Feet! I cant see why approaching shy of 2000ft that you dont go a few feet higher and truly become a building in the 2000 feet club!

Currently

No. 1 Burj Khalifa
No. 2 Shanghai Tower (Under construction)
No. 3 Clock Tower Mecca TBC?

It's already in the 600 m club, and considering that only the US still uses the Imperial system, the meter milestone is much more important.

Still, it would've been nice if they could push it just a little higher to get it up to 2000 ft. Knowing how many non-western countries build tall to show off the US (this is one of the reasons for highrise construction abroad, perhaps a very very small one), pushing the tower over 2000 ft would be a deal breaker as no building in the US is even allowed to go over 2000 ft.

Some people in this thread think this building is ugly - while i am not a big fan (just yet) i think it will grow on people liek the World Trade Centre did and the Sear Tower as well. Time will tell! I hope when they reach the 605 meter mark - they push it a bit further - a lightly taller spire will make it stand out even more and plus complement the size of the building. If EMAAR did not push the Burj Khalifa we would not be enjoying its half mile status!

such an amazing building mass

and the cresent will go on anytime now i wonder if they will lift it up by helicopter like they did with parts of the top on Burj khalifah.

would be awsome if they could do it at the same day of the month as the real moon is it at its cresent state. would really bring alot of symbolism to the topping out of the building

since the crusent moon's symbol came from the ottoman empire and was later stuck as a symbol to muslims, i don''t think that adding that crusent will be so important that they will do as you wondered. islam is too pure for it to have symbolism, specially in the arabian penninsulla

but i guess it will be done via helicopter

that picture from Hashem is amazing thanks alot for finding it Roukaya19

i had no idea Makkah had that many transmission masts

i guess it is probably because of all the arabic tv channels cowering the prayers and gathering in and around The Sacred Mosque. If it is legal to film in Makkah and the mosque

I know so many people hated this building at first, called it gaudy or Disney-Worldish, but I'm sorry I think it's coming out great and is looking more and more like a landmark with each passing day. I wouldn't call it a cutting edge modern design, but it gives Mecca a landmark that stands out more than the Sacred Mosque lol.

Any mountainous, populated region on earth has many transmission towers. The valleys would not receive TV or Radio signals clearly without them.

That's one weird looking building. I don't like it, but at least it's interesting...it's more interesting than the mosque. This will now be more of the face of Makkah.

Thanks for your reply

By the way, the spire of Makkah Clock Tower will be a ''transmission antenna''

^Those two rectangular tumors sticking out right underneath the ornate top ruin the whole composition. Imagine if they put a couple of those on the sides of the Empire State Building, near the top.
