I know Sephora and Aeropostale are already under construction and Victoria's Secret and Forever 21 are supposed to be opening this year. I'm just waiting for Halifax Shopping Centre to release all the names

I was in Bangor Mall's Hollister store this week and the guy working there asked where I was from. He then told me that Halifax's Hollister location has been officially confirmed within the company and that it is aiming to be open by this fall!

With the Bay closing its doors for the last time the other day, is there any word on who purchased the building? They said once the store closes they would announce who bought it.

In your response to the question about who has purchased the West End Mall, read this interesting link. Turns out it was the Ontario Pension Board who also owns other real-estate in the city. Go figure.

Title: West End Mall sold to Ontario Pension Board

The owner of the West End Mall in Halifax has sold the property for $10.4 million.

Crombie Real Estate Investment Trust said Friday it has sold the retail and commercial project to
OPB Realty Inc.

West End Mall is located on a 1.7-hectare site and has leasable space of about 204,000 square feet.

Its 44 tenants include Sears Canada Inc., Wal-Mart and a num ber of offices and small retailers. OPB Realty owns retail proper ties across the country.

Source: Halifax Herald

Along with this latest acquisition, the OPB also owns several other interests in Halifax:

Halifax Shopping Centre - 527,000 square feet
Halifax Shopping Centre Annex - 419,000 square feet
2003 Gottingen Street - 25,000 square feet
215 Chain Lake Drive - 65,000 square feet
Halifax Office Complex - 114,000 square feet
Burnside Industrial Park - 498,000 square feet
Wright Place - 107,000 square feet

SOURCE (http://www.opb.ca/CMS/Assets/Publica...eal+estate.pdf)

Just thought this was interesting.

While city council is turning away viable development in HRM, other parts of the country are buying us up piece by piece. Rather ironic, isn't it?

Coach has already been opened at the Halifax Shopping centre on the lower level. It has been open for over a year.

Sorry, but the Bay store property is not part of this. The Bay owned that store themselves.

They sold it to Joe Ramia who is trying to decide how to redevelop it.

Yes Coach has been open there for quite a while already. I'm wondering what will happen with the Bay store in Halifax too, but also the Toys R Us space that will soon be vacated in Mic Mac. I'm sure they have lots of stores waiting for a space in the mall.

According to a source who works at Halifax Shopping Centre, the following stores will be opening there within the next year as part of the "upscale conversion":

Sephora
Victoria’s Secret
Forever 21
Aeropostale
Hollister Co.
Urban Outfitters

Awaiting Approval: Abercrombie & Fitch

There are alot of empty spaces in Mic Mac. I was sad to hear toys r us is moving to Dartmouth "Sprawling". It will be a big blow to the mall but hopefully an opportunity to expand and grow as well for those of us who prefer indoor malls to parking lots.

Im not sure who the "Joe" guy who bought the bay is, but I hope he does something public friendly with existing department store space and maybe an apartment building on top. Kind of sad to see the retro 70s bay go. Also there is alot of parking space in the garage that could either be saved and used in new development or even made into commercial/residential space. The building can be so much more than just a call center or medical school

I hope you're being sarcastic with the great 1970's architecture comment. Joe Ramia is the guy who brought back Bayers rd. Shopping center and is also the guy who is doing the Nova Center.

I'm hoping Mic Mac is ok. It will need some new stores if it wants to compete with Halifax Shopping Centre after those news stores open...

I know the American Eagle store at Mic Mac is moving to the second floor and doubling it's previous size by taking over the old Disney Store and Eclipse locations and a new Aerie stand alone store will take over AE's old bottom floor location (AE employee told me), so I guess we'll see what happens.

If Hollister is the store I'm thinking of, the one my cousin dragged me to in Toronto...it's dark and smelly! (perfumed)

They keep Hollister stores fairly dimly lit and every 30 minutes perfume is sprayed around the store. It really isn't as bad as some people say...I think it's kinda cool to separate themselves from other stores and create that "young" look.
