[Burnaby] Sovereign | 155.9m | 45fl | Completed

Empress Tower, the proposed Bosa Development at the corner of Willingdon Ave. and Kingsway. The "tallest structure in Burnaby" according to the architect website: http://www.dikeakos.com/projects/High-Rise/all/KWY

Looks good. As for being the tallest, I dunno. If the standard floor to celing height is 10.5 feet it wll be around 112-118 meters.

Burnaby really needs some 130 meter/400 foot developments.

Now this i hope goes through sooner than a couple years, i am tired of that prominent corner being an empty building and a gravel lot. Also i agree, would be great if Burnaby could build a 130+m tower, they seem to be stuck to the 110m range now.

By the looks of the Tower and the area it is in I would guess there is a Office component on the lower larger floors. That would account for the taller height with not too many floors. Any chance there is Hotel here too? Must definetly be Mix use thought correct?

Never mind just read the link larger floors are commercial. then res from there up, no hotel.

I still want to see a mixed use hotel/office building I think it would work very well.

Can't wait to see this one go up with Metro 3 should be awesome

The project site says 431'! That is 131.37 meters! Please be a serious proposal that has a good chance!

Well it's Bosa, so if they say it will be built it most likely will... they are one of the more reputable developers in town. The real question is when it will be built, the architect's website states completion for 2011 but that seems awfully optimistic and could be an old date, especially considering the layoffs that happened at Bosa just a few months ago.

bosa and concord seem most well suited to weather the current downturn and to actually keep doing projects.

looks like they have something planned on Main Street? is that the final site in the Citygate lands at Milross and Main? or?

The first rendering doesn't look very good. Two pieces stuck together that don't fit quite right. They should either make them look more seemless or give them distinctly different rhythms. But it's Bosa, and I usually like what they do. Maybe it's just the rendering.

Looks like they're planning to do the office tower first and condo later. Seems like a good project though. It seems that adding brick or stone or something to the lower floor would make it a lot better, it would look like a modern condo built over a modern-historic office building.

Yeah, it does look like the project could be phased.

Still remember this being the site where I was quizzed on when interviewing for a planning position at Burnaby earlier this year. (But was not offered the post in the end.) If this building was given as a quiz question, me thinks the plan has either been placed on hold or being redrawn. Afterall Bosa still owns the property.

However, due to the confidential agreement signed with Burnaby I am not allowed to discuss any further on the subject. I've been quizzed on the site and that's all I am going to say. Sorry.
