The subcontractor bids are due today, so this project is most likely moving forward.

Appears to be the SRO/dorm proposal first announced several months ago that would replace an old house, I guess they get around the regulations especially new parking requirements because its probably considered only 1 unit a floor given the shared accommodations. Watch for an uproar over this proposal.

I work on this street and, just this morning, passed three dumpsters on the street out in front of the house.

Correction: 11:30AM - The house is gone

Check out this staff presentation about the Riverscape addition if you want to see some truly awful architecture that actually gets worse as they (LRS? ...looks very LRS) try to respond to the design commission's requests. It appears to be headed to City Council due to a neighborhood appeal. The design commission's final requirements would have at least resulted in some of the worst elements of the design being removed. There's also mention of a possible Naito road diet as well as a major change in zoning across the street from Riverscape.

I usually give architects and developers a lot of leeway in projects like this, but this design is basically shit. What are they thinking? Those arched windows on the ground floor look awful. Too bad they didn't take on the design commission's suggestion to reference more industrial/simple character with dock-like ground floor commercial and apartments.

Just noticed that the awful triplex at 2651 nw thurman has been knocked down. Portlandmaps.com shows a permit for a 4 story mixed use residential bldg to replace it.

That was one of the last signs I saw get taken down when the recession started. Wow, seeing that done is going to take me back.

The NW Examiner is reporting that they're starting construction on October 7th (tomorrow), and that permitting has taken longer than anticipated due to City concerns about the safety of shoppers while the work is being undertaken. The link above seems to indicate a significant number of reviews that are still open.

At last -- this can't happen soon enough for the neighborhood. Looking a little gritty around there, and the bank across the street (20th) is gone... wonder if that'll become mixed-use redevelopment? I hope this new store helps revitalize Burnside a little. I know it's got built-in problems with the narrow sidewalks and heavy traffic, but at least the store will have new setback and a more welcoming presence.

NW/Stadium Fred Meyer Expansion

I noticed this morning that the parking garage and old Hollywood Video are fenced off and equipment is being moved in. Yay.

It's a Works Partnership project, I believe.

Excellent news!

I wonder what the timeframe for the entire renovation is.
