I would think it's Google. Makes sense as it would be right there by their building.

Also, it looks like the lone building on that lot is being leased out now. So, I wouldn't expect anything is going to happen there in the short run.
It was a couple of years ago, easily. For some reason I'm remembering it as a Holiday Inn, though I don't know why. It was way too early in the process to slap a brand on it.

Finally was able to get downtown 2 weeks ago. Man the 823 congress's new paint job and the Hiltons new paint job are very poor choices in my opinion.

823 is so bad that I'm convinced somebody lost a bet or something. I can't see how that was approved.

I'm confused on why the Hilton's new paint job is taking a year to finish. It's still the old color on the south side. What's the deal?

It's not just paint -- they're stripping and recaulking windows as they go. The project's actually on schedule, believe it or not.

823 is a good example of how to get fired. It is wrong for so many reasons.
1- totally ignored the building... it's era... it's composition... What worked about it and how to take advantage.
And there is a lot that does... or did......
2- Blues? WTF? And those shades. Made it look cheap.... PLUS those light colors show old any imperfections on solid surfaces. Bad choice.
AND... crappy paint job. Seriously.
3- the street level cheap ass dated prefab perforated screens?
4- While I'm good with a seating area... the sculptural banks also looks cheap and dated already.
....Don't have time to detail the above... But obviously the whole deal was discount design and contracting.

I'll just say look at Bank of America at 6th and Congress for a compare and contrast on how to re-work a building and understand it's bones and enhance it.

I stand alone, alone with my bad taste apparently because I think 823 was ok then but better now. I haven't looked at it up close, but I think I get what they were thinking. I believe they were just trying to give it a fresh new look, albeit in the least expensive way possible. Maybe it does resemble a more baby bluish battleship, but I think in this case, different is good and it is different from the rest for sure. Maybe all black would have worked, but I'm ok with this. But as I said before, my wife used to work in that building and says it was ugly then, and its still ugly. Maybe its just a tutu on a hippo, but I guess I'm into that sort of thing. Please don't judge me...

What's wrong with the Hilton? The new paint scheme can't be worse than the old orange on orange.

It's much better. Gray and cream. Left the rust/red windows, which works.
They combined some of the graphics that created the smaller grids, which I think also helps.

I think it's a dramatic improvement.

Exactly WTF is the Equity Office? I suggest we get rid of it in the event it is something taxpayer supported.

Does anyone one remember this one at 9th & Nueces? This was a vision from a marketing flyer, but a 200' tower can be built on the site.

Kairoi Development (formerly Lynd) who is developing the residential portion of 6th + Guadalupe, filed a pre-development permit today about a tree on the site.

What seems reasonable under this logic is truly just bulldozing every city and town south of the Mason-Dixon Line and starting from scratch after about 100 years (you have to let the land recover, after all). History is full of mistakes, but there is not a single person who has something named after them that was perfect in every way. I'm not supporting the celebration of figures tied to the confederacy or slavery by any means, but there is a line somewhere, and they're talking about blowing past it.

Edit: However, IF the name "Austin" needs to change, would they go back to "Waterloo"? Just wondering.
