Cool concept, I hope they're able to get this off the ground.

Before and After

With some help from The Model, here is a couple of aerial pics of DT. The first one if from 12/4/1939:

And the second is from around 2010, and taken by our own Raul:

Hopefully we'll get more as the new construction going on DT is completed.

Thanks to Raul for his help.

Well hell, I'm not sure why Raul's photo is not coming up. Maybe this link will work:https://www.flickr.com/photos/raulsp...n/photostream/

Very cool! Also sad to see what we've lost. Among many other things, it looks like there was a pretty interesting neighborhood between downtown and the west side rail yard/cattlemans square area. I doubt if even 1% of what's in that area is left today.

Interesting interview with Assistant City Manager Lori Houston. She's been helm on some of the recent advancement in our DT core and the Museum Reach:

http://www.mysanantonio.com/business...n-12311876.php

"Q: Local company Lynd Development Partners wants to build a 62-story office and residential tower in Austin. Will something like that be built in San Antonio anytime soon?

A: I think so. I think we’re on the right path.

We continue to have more housing come about our downtown. And when you do that, you create a neighborhood that helps with the retail a neighborhood needs, and you create a place where companies want to locate their headquarters. That will create the demand we need for a tower.

When Zachry started their planning process (at Hemisfair), their office tower was less than 100,000 square feet. They’ve grown that to over 150,000 square feet because there’s demand for class A office space. More and more people want to locate their offices in downtown San Antonio.

Q: Where should Elmore Sports Group put the triple-A baseball stadium?

A: I really don’t know. I don’t know if there’s an appetite for triple-A baseball right now. I do think it needs to be downtown."

Not sure what's funnier, the plan, or the fact people are surprised by it.

I mean, as long as it moves both of those federal facilities out of Hemisfair and over there... I'll deal.

I do hope they keep the American Pavilion building and reuse it somehow though...I think it's a super cool and unique piece of mid-century architecture.

Just the courthouse. The Feds have no intention of vacating the adjacent office building.

Randy talks about some of the projects the WU has going on, San Pedro creek, and what their future plans are.

Also talks of a bar on the "hat" of the Milam.

Interesting that they've changed their mind about making the Milam residential. It might speak to their confidence of demand for office space. Also may indicate they'll build a residential high-rise on one of those parking lots.

My ears perked up when Randy indicated the parking lots they own could be "peoples' homes". Pretty sure he didn't mean "ranch style".

USAA DOUBLING its workforce Downtown at One Riverwalk Center!!!!

They now have ~40% of that building!!!

http://www.expressnews.com/business/...n-12327201.php

Quote:
USAA, which occupies four floors in its One Riverwalk Center at 700 N. St. Mary’s Street, will take an additional four floors in the building — allowing it to add about 400 workers.

I heard it was more that they couldn't get apartments to work with the shape of the building, so they are doing all offices. The ceilings are really low in that building so anything is going to be challenging there...
