I believe this to be true. There were two contractors still in the hunt and they were planning on starting work late spring.

A total re-clad of the building will make a huge difference in the look of this.

Work expected to take 1.5 - 2 years

Interesting that this could finally proceed. I just caught fenwick's previous post noting that the current concrete verticals will be clad in aluminum; that could make quite a difference in its appearance.

Should the title of this thread be changed to reflect that the building will remain at 33 stories instead of 36?

There is a cladding company from Ontario doing the work. Triumph Inc.

They plan to start within the next month on the renovation.

Thank you for the information.

Construction has finally begun?!

A cladding hoist has been assembled on the Fenwick St facade.

Man, that building is ugly when you look close as in that pic. I remember hearing maybe 10 years ago that it was sinking but had not heard anything further. Hope that isn't true.

Interesting that some of the windows on that end of the tower appear to be the original sliders but others have been swapped out for double-hungs.

Here's a pic of Fenwick I took.

I can't wait to photograph it when it's redeveloped in beautiful glass.

Some of the windows were damaged during Juan and were replaced with more recent units which were a better fit.

I don't believe there are any sliders in the new configuration as they have swapped to fixed with with awning and terrace doors

yea they kicked it around enough, finally decided on punch windows as they cant afford curtain wall or window wall. everything is scaled back which is not a good sign. they wore out most contractors and material agents over the years bidding and feeding from their knowledge. good luck.

Honestly, I'm happy not to see Fenwick clad in glass. I think simply giving it a good power wash would do wonders for the tower portion of the building. The ground floor is terrible though, and I would love to see the focus of any renovations be on improving the areas around the base of the tower and the building's interface with the street/sidewalk.

Fenwick Tower looks like some ugly brutalist building you'd find on the eastern side of Moscow, thrown up during communist era Russia.
