I would think Bombardier has some advantage as they are already building vehicles for the Eglinton LRT, all they have to do is keep the same line in Thunder Bay running.

am I missing something, or do two of the consortia not have a train-maker?

guess that's right:
Quote:
Each of the three companies leads a large consortium that includes rail experts, financial backers, Ottawa-based engineering and architecture firms, and others. Only the Vinci-led group includes a manufacturer of trains — Canadian-based Bombardier. The other two will choose train suppliers as the bidding process continues. This is markedly different from the way the bidding went on the rail project the city ended up cancelling in 2006, in which each of the finalists was led by a trainmaker.

The winning bidder in that competition, the German firm Siemens, isn’t included in any of these groups, though it (and other trainmakers) could either join the Bouygues or ACS groups as a partner or simply sell them trains as a vendor.

Heard on TVA, that the Rapibus segment east of Labrosse Blvd will be delayed by one year at least. Apparently land decontamination costs jumped from 4 to 20 million. Hopefully, the provincial government will find the funding before the next election. That segment from Labrosse to Lorrain is needed too. Hopefully this is not going to be left out for good or not be built until 2075. But this is the latest of a disturbing trend in Gatineau, big projects continuously being delayed. Highways 5 and 50 extensions had delays, the sports complex as well as the ice surface planned for Nicolas-Gatineau High School had delays, the Bob and of course the Rapibus had its fair share of delays. Ever since the current mayor is in office, there has being nothing but delays

However, Things have been moving along well for the portion between Hwy 50 and Montee Paiement. They have re-installed the rail lines apparently beside Maloney.

I had heard stuff regarding Alstom. Last thing I've heard they were planning to shut down the Hull plant, maybe re-launching something else there, but I haven't heard anything for awhile.

The Ducharme years were also filled with delays that's for sure.

Also thumbs up (on the second half) for the person who wrote that letter to Ken Gray. The hell with the Westboro/Byron NIMBYs as it says basically.

I do agree the ultimate alignment should move back to the 1996 plan (the Connaught tunnel). That should be deferred to the same time as the Western LRT extension and built as that with a 2023 target opening (as part of a second branch to Bayshore) in order to avoid a quick transition, with interim improvements for now.

Things are moving along for the Rapibus. Not sure, but I think they've started to pave the segment between Greber and Mtee Paiement. Jersey barriers have been set up along the roadway as well beside a chunk of the railway and Maloney. Traffic lights have been installed at the intersection with the Archambault/Costco/Sports Experts entrance to les Promenades (boul de l'Alliance I think).

Lots of stuff underway around the Casino, the Super C and the Reno-Depot on La Carriere. I think the route 21 is being re-routed along back roadways by the Casino.

My camera was full at the time, so I couldn't take any pictures of the progress.

Maybe Ken Gray should spend one afternoon rush hour in a snowfall like today on the Mackenzie King or even just a clear day (I bet he didn't did that once) to realize the tunnel is needed.

I don't think people would want to be stranded in a queue of bus from Tunney's to Laurier during the rush hour.

The first one should be entirely designed, at this stage, for BRT (I don't think that stretch of LRT should be built until after the LRT is extended into the established suburbs). As for the Bayshore-Moodie corridor, it should be a top priority, BRT initially and LRT ultimately.

I think the Barrhaven-Riverside South corridor should be done ASAP as BRT, to compensate the BS caused by O'Brien (his flip-flop on the N-S LRT). Basically, go on Chapman Mills to Strandherd then the Bridge and follow the corridor that was planned. It would be great that this would be done before 2015.

Since the originally plan was for LRT to use that dedicated corridor (specifically on Chapman Mills Drive) is there anyway that residents can fight them changing it to BRT? Or is it set aside as a general transit corridor (of any nature) therefore meaning that the residents would have no say because they knew about this development from the moment their neighbourhood was planned / they bought their house.

They should have been definitely aware before their purchase about a rapid transit corridor. Besides I don't think there will be many buses Aside from probably the 77, the 176 and perhaps an extension of route 99 to Barrhaven (though unlikely the 95 or the 94)

By looking at the maps, the houses are built too close to Strandherd between Claridge and Woodroffe to built a separate transit road beside Strandherd (well the space is much smaller then between the 417 and the Dumaurier area near Pinecrest.

http://maps.google.ca/maps?hl=en&ll=...h&z=17&vpsrc=6

Essentially, if they want bus roadway only they would have to use Chapman Mills until the future intersection with Strandherd on the north side of the wood area north of Cresthaven. From there until the Strandherd Bridge, there might be more then enough space to put a separated busway, although Strandherd was planned to be six-lanes right, so probably two of those lanes are for the BRT corridor just like on the bridge. After that I think east of River Road it will be a separate busway from Earl Armstrong heading east until past Limeback then curving north all the way to Leitrim Park And Ride and connection to a future extension of the O-Train there.

There is an article on Le Droit talking about an ambitious project of a monorail line from Gatineau to Rimouski.with connector routes from Quebec City to Saguenay and from Montreal to Sherbrooke. They are taking speed of 250 km/h, which would mean a trip to Montreal would take about 45 minutes to 1 hour and an extra hour to Quebec City.

Chapman Mills Drive will be used as a connector route for Riverside South buses to access the terminus of the Transitway in Barrhaven Centre. Maps already show in as 'future route'.
The bus lanes on Strandherd leading to the bridge and the future park-n-ride station at Woodroffe are already complete, waiting for the parking lot and bridge to be completed. I'm sure Riverside South residents who have been isolated in that community are eager for that to happen, especially college students.
