I live at 900 Key Biscayne, which is just a few blocks down from where this massive proposal will hopefully take place! So I'll definitely be all over supplying you guys with pictures!

... but you can't judge the quality of any design, let alone a very simple one, from a single rendering. this could be a great tower, or it could be an average one. the details of the top, the quality and articulation of the curtain wall, the way it engages the city at the ground, etc, all remain to be seen.

there is nothing wrong with this proposal at a fundamental level, e.g. proportion, form, etc.

The "~" in front of the 1000 means approximately, 992 feet is a supertall and approx. 1000 feet tall.

Miami’s One Bayfront Plaza expected to be finished in 2018

Developer Tibor Hollo is waiting for existing leases to expire in 2014 before demolishing a downtown Miami building on the site where he plans the tallest tower south of Atlanta.

Construction on the 80-story One Bayfront Plaza, which would rise 1,010 feet, could be completed by the first quarter of 2018. The site is at 100 S. Biscayne Blvd, where Vitas Healthcare is currently headquartered.

Hollo plans to develop 4.2 million square feet of space that will include 700 luxury residences; 200,000 square feet of retail; 650,000 square feet of offices; a four-star, 500-room hotel; a five-star, 120-room hotel.

This project keeps getting pushed back but at least we know the reasons why now. Developer Tibor Hollo has owned the 14 story building that currently exists on the site for years & has over 50 years expirence building highrises and other projects in the Miami area.
Two more years until the start of construction and I'm keeping my fingers crossed!

That's a long wait, not too long but a couple years before constructions starts, I wonder if the growing market and economy can bring about something even taller (If height negotiations are made of course)

Miami needs to grow gradually, like every other Western city. Not all the Asian cities are guaranteed financial success if they build skyscrapers with small demand.

I found a rendering model of the building in Sketch Up and decided to show how it would be seen in different parts of the city.

From these renderings, the building looks pretty boring. The old design was a lot better than these renderings. I don't know where Miami Today News is getting this business about new height restrictions. We just had a legal battle not long ago to get 1,010 feet in parts of the CBD and Brickell.

Hopefully that can change. They would move the flight paths going over downtown away. During this time, the Fort Lauderdale and Palm Beach airports can take in the extra routes. Would be a perfect time of improving transportation for the whole South Florida Area.

No, the airport is there to stay with all the billions being put into it.

I can't believe you suggested that the airport could move, very odd. There is nowhere to move it, and they would be wasting billions if they closed it. The planners of the past had no vision sadly. Airport planning has often been shortsighted in many cities.
