I'm surprised more people aren't following this building's progress - it's one of the more unique ones being built in New York.

Construction has surpassed the 40th floor at Herzog & deMeuron's tower in Tribeca. The tower has risen past the two thirds mark of its final height of 821 feet and 60 stories. Cantilevered floor slabs create a stacked box appearance to the tower, exaggerated by larger cantilevers at the first seven floors and the penthouse floors at the top. Exterior envelop has been installed on the lower floors, where the stacked box design is more pronounced, and on the more regular mid tier. When completed, the tower will bring 145 unique residences.

well since we are on the final 15-ish floors it will cantilever/jenga up again now and construction will appear to slow down. in the meantime, i am hoping we see lots of cladding go up along the lower floors. i'm curious about how that will look around the jutting balconies.

Wow, Nexis4Jersey and NYGuy, thanks for those views, everything from "jenga" to what looks like neo-classical to brutalist architectural styles, in a couple of shots, basically a few city blocks.

OT: I love the AT&T building at 33 Thomas Street. NYGuy, in those terrific shots by LeeHoward, I can almost feel the texture of the building. 33 Thomas has a dark, brooding, "fortress strong" feeling, really neat. I hope the building is never messed with.

Nicknamed the “Jenga-building” and the “tower of penthouses,” 56 Leonard’s design comes from the Swiss architectural firm of Herzog & de Meuron while working with the residential know-it-alls at Goldstein Hill & West. Currently, the concrete frame is approximately 700 feet tall with little more than 100 feet to rise before topping off. The floors progressively stagger at varying configurations creating cantilevered interior spaces as well as outdoor balconies for each of the residences.
