I must say that San Francisco has many many buildings built in the past decade, and there are at least 12 more 400ft-900ft in the near future. Miami has a lot of mostly empty residential buildings spread around but not a dense downtown like SF.

American Dream Mall was approved by planning advisory board for Miami-Dade.

Also, a 50 story, 500 foot tower will be included (hotel portion).

Thread: http://forum.skyscraperpage.com/showthread.php?t=233414

Just a little regarding the scope of the mall and property planned:

Quote:
3.5 million square feet of retail (more than any other American mall)
1.5 million square feet of entertainment
1.2 million square feet back-of-house
2,000 hotel rooms

Project: 4865 NW 7th Street (Blue Lagoon) ; 1,182 Units

Quote:
A hotel and residential project is proposed by Weiss Group at Blue Lagoon.

If a rezoning is approved, the project would include 888 residential units, 294 hotel rooms and 1,412 parking spaces spread over six buildings. The tallest height would be 16 stories.

Miami’s Planning, Zoning and Appeals Board is scheduled to review the rezoning request at a meeting today, but city staff recommend denial. Workforce and affordable housing units are being pledged in exchange for the rezoning.

Kobi Karp is the architect.

Symphony Park Hotel Proposed In South Beach, Designed By French Architect

Quote:
Sobe Center, LLC has filed plans to demolish and replace a South Beach Citibank with a hotel designed by French architect Rudy Ricciotti.

The proposal includes 150 hotel rooms, with 122 mechanical parking spaces. There will also be ground floor retail and restaurant, and a rooftop pool, bar and restaurant.

New World Symphony and Soundscape Park are across the street, with Lincoln Road a block away. On the opposite corners are the Temple Emanu-El synagogue, Jackie Gleason Theater, and Convention Center.

A variance to allow the building height of eight stories (instead of seven permitted) and 83 feet (instead of 80 permitted) will be needed. Other variances including setback requirements will be needed.

Miami Beach’s Planning Board will review the proposal on June 26 since it exceeds 50,000 square feet and uses mechanical parking.
