Thailand

At the end of September/beginning of October, I took a 9-day trip to Thailand with my best friend. Most of our time was spent in Bangkok, but we also went out into the jungle to do some exploring. We bookended the trip with a few days in Los Angeles and San Diego for good measure. After a 14-hour flight from Los Angeles to Taipei, and a 4-hour flight from Taipei to Bangkok, this is what I saw.

A little touristy, but I figured y'all might enjoy some of this.

Bangkok

Bangkok: Riding on a boat down the Chao Phraya River

Bangkok: Wat Arun (Temple of Dawn)

Bangkok: Back on land

Bangkok: View from Baiyoke Tower II. At 997 feet, it is the tallest building in Bangkok, Thailand, and Southeast Asia. It is home to the Baiyoke Sky Hotel.

Bangkok: Ratchadamri Road in the Ratchaprasong district

Bangkok: Grand Palace. Was the official residence of the King of Siam (later Thailand) until 1925. The Grand Palace is currently used only for official events.

Bangkok: Back in the real world

Bang Pa: King Rama IV's Summer Palace, previously used for royal receptions and banquets

Bang Pa: Time for chow. So inexpensive - I ate an entire meal for $1.00 USD

Ayutthaya: Wat Yai Chaimongkol

Ayutthaya: Wat Chai Watanaram, a monastery commissioned by King Prasatthong in 1630 in honor of his mother. It also resembles Angkor Wat, which has led some to believe that he had it built to commemorate victory over Cambodia.

Kanchanaburi

Kanchanaburi: Taweechai Elephant Camp - got to ride an elephant through the jungle and a river!

Kanchanaburi: Bamboo rafting down the Kwae Yai River

Kanchanaburi: Krasae Cave

After a few days in the jungle, back to Bangkok.

Bangkok

Bangkok: Back to Suvarnabhumi Airport for a 4-hour flight to Taipei before a 12-hour flight to Los Angeles

Los Angeles: Back!

Yup, it was during the rainy season. It rained only once during the day when I was in Bangkok for about 15 minutes. Otherwise, it rained very late at night/very early morning when we weren't out and about.
