Kiener Plaza remake. This is the latest CityArchRiver phase to open in downtown St. Louis - and just in time for the summer. It cost about $24-million.

The nearly $400-million, CityArchRiver project will bring a new a museum with highly-interactive exhibits, new pathways and trails, water features, new landscaping, statue refurbishments, lighting etc.

It is all part of the mile-long Gateway Mall that stretches from the Mississippi River to Union Station.

SEE VIDEOS HERE and HERE.

Below, the parking garage/commercial building (to the left) is slated for remodel.

St. Louis puts Seattle to shame in terms of parks in its downtown area. Most of our green space is on the downtown fringes, not really in the core. Your parks can be walked to at lunch our from the largest buildings.

And benches in the shade (or what will be shade in a few years)...a concept we need to learn from.

I can't help but really dislike that plaza. The design makes no sense and there is way too much space dedicated to tile (badly colored tile at that). I like what they're doing around the arch though, the symmetry looks great, why didn't they continue the same symmetry and materials with Kiener plaza?

The quantity of pavement suggests that festivals will be held there. And maybe a few food trucks sometimes.

Outside of those I'd agree that more grass would be good. But they do have a wealth of grassy areas in nearby parks too.

^^ & ^ The intent is to use it as an event space and have seasonal programming. I'm fine with the amount of pavement, but not a big fan of the paver colors/pattern either. It's too much, IMO. I'm okay with the asymmetry too. Citygarden a block west isn't symmetric, and there's an inherent asymmetry in the mall due to the Gateway One office building. There are lots of benches and interactive features in addition to the event space. Once the trees fill in I think it will be a well-used and attractive space, especially if we can ever replace those horrible garages with residential.

I don't like the appearance from above, but at ground level it looks better / more engaging. I agree that the pavers are not great. Probably better than a single monotonous color though.

Yes, the newly-redone Keiner Plaza is to be event space-driven.

Keep in mind too that this is basically a mile-long park mall. The Soldier's Memorial on the western part of the mall is currently undergoing a $30-35-million renovation.

They are trying to attract all kinds - families, old, young, millennials etc. - to the these new and renovated (green) spaces.

In my personal opinion, the whole St. Louis region is great when it comes to parks.

Forest Park, Tower Grove Park, Lone Elk Park, Jefferson National Expansion Memorial Park (Arch Grounds), Laumeier, Cahokia Mounds State Park (10 minutes from downtown in Illinois) etc.

St. Louis University is the oldest university west of the Mississippi River and second-oldest Jesuit university in the United States.

The private, Jesuit university's sprawling Midtown St. Louis campus is adding yet another dorm this summer.

It is almost finished.

The $71 million project will house nearly 530 first- and second-year students, who will also enjoy suite style-living and comfortable spaces to hang out and study.

Grand Hall also features a new 740-seat dining hall that will include restaurant-style seating, a fireplace and multiple food stations.

Tribeca is rising in St. Louis' West End near the new Delmar Loop Trolley line.

The seven-story, $29 million apartment building is replacing a parking lot in the DeBaliviere Place neighborhood in St. Louis just north of Forest Park.
There will be 165 apartments wrapped around three floors of parking at 5510 Pershing Avenue.

Clayton is killing it right now. Now its downtown's turn to catch up. The new Arch grounds and BPV breaking ground soon would be a good start.

So this means the tower is easily over 400 ft now! That's gonna make a huge mark on the skyline.

It's a wrap! Citizen Park Apartments (formerly Lindell Residences) is now open in the Central West End. Leasing the retail spaces has begun.

The Microsoft building in CORTEX - St. Louis' innovation district - is well underway.

Microsoft will occupy about 30,000 square feet of the new $55 million, 180,000-square-foot office and lab complex being developed by Wexford Science and Technology on the parking lot next to the @4240 lab and office building.

Microsoft plans to employ up to 200 workers.

The new St. Louis office will serve as a regional headquarters for states such as Missouri, Kansas and Tennessee - Microsoft's Mid-America District.

The company will also include a new Microsoft Technology Center. There are only 40 Microsoft Technology Centers around the world.
