New recent sunset and evening views of Downtown and Midtown

Photos from November 6, 2009; Note the long shadows of the Midtown towers reaching towards the CDC complex in the first shot.

Those shadows are really amazing!

bigcitydude, there is a small city of the same name on the western side of the mountain, but the land immediately surrounding Stone Mountain is part of a large park. As for the mountain itself, its actually a singular chunk of granite. I believe it was formed as an intrusion of magma into the surrounding rock layers several hundred million years ago that solidified and was eventually exposed once the softer rock eroded.

Hey Joe,
What are the things at the top of 1180? I really wish they would be taken down as it takes away from the beauty of this tower.

Also, has anyone noticed a new tint on the lighting of 1180 ever since the office tower of 12th + Midtown phase II has begun lighting it's crown?

unfortunately 1180 has been fitted with permanent scaffolding for easier maintenance. it may have something to do with the ice that formed on the glass last winter. several people were injured from falling shards and if you will remember at times parts of ptree were shut down due to falling ice. also i love how joe captured the 'throne' angle of 1180. he really does bring out the best in our skyline.
