PHILADELPHIA | Drexel University | Chestnut Square | 19 floors

http://www.ramsa.com/projects-search...ut-square.html

Title: Chestnut Square
Project: 869 student beds, 30,000 sqft of retail space
Architect: Robert A.M. Stern
Developer: Drexel University/ American Campus Communities
Location: 3200 Chestnut St., Philadelphia, PA
Neighborhood: University City
District: West Philadelphia
Floors: 19
Height: 200+ ft

Drexel University has partnered with American Campus Communities to create a 19 story and two 8 story dormitories with 30,000 square feet of retail space fronting Chestnut street on the 3200 block. The dorm overall will provide 869 beds for students.

The construction of the residence halls and retail space will take place in the small strip of land between the locations of the Creese Student Center and MacAlister Hall and Chestnut Street.

The plans also include a 101,500 square foot parking garage that will be able to hold 267 vehicles. The garage would be built behind Creese, where loading facilities are today, with entrances and exits on 32nd Street.

Site Prep has started.

Vast improvement to what that block is now.

Penn will be building new dorms soon, across the street(Hill Field). Between 33rd + 34th + Chestnut.

When I was a freshman at Penn in 1996, Hill Field was fenced in. The Fine Arts school was located in the blue shed at that intersection. Penn's Bookstore was where Huntsman now stands, while its future location was still a parking lot.

As Penn and Drexel goes, so goes the Philadelphia Region this century.

And the Inky finally catches onto the project. Better late than never, I guess.

I walked past this today and they are still doing foundation work, nothing that I could really take pictures of.

I believe they put the crane up this weekend. Might be time to move this to under construction and update the database.

Moved to Highrise Construction forum and edited thread title to remove "SITE PREP", since, well, it's clearly beyond the site prep phase.
