Does anyone know when the actual construction of the new "Gordie Howe International Bridge" is supposed to begin?

I believe late next year, with completion in late 2020. The P3 partner is being selected right now, who will then design the bridge and construct it. There's a bit of controversy apparently because the weak Canadian dollar is making the project far more expensive, and the Feds are in the middle of backing several massive bridge projects (this one, new Champlain bridge in Montreal, and new Bridge in Vancouver)

Work on the plaza on the Canadian side has already begun. The actual bridge construction will likely start sometime late this year or early next year, once the final design has been chosen.

Moroun's 2nd bridge would still need multiple approvals the least of which includes one from the Canadian Government who have repeatedly voiced that they don't want a 2nd bridge there.

Yes, and the city of Windsor is also against this new span, as it will decimate a part of the city that is the most historic, Olde Sandwich Towne. Maroun has already bought up blocks of historic homes for the new span and has left them to rot. He want to demolish them so he can also build a truck queuing area for the bridge, this is in a completely residential area and the residents are horrified that he may get his way. I wish the old Troll would just take a dirt nap already!

Old, rich, white men usually try to ruin life for the rest of us as much as they possibly can, it's like in their DNA or something.

I know this is pretty far-fetched, but the type of building that I could imagine being at the Hudon's site is a building like the Wilshire Grand Tower being build in Los Angeles.

It used seem like this city could never save anything historic, it's been great seeing buildings that even the most ardent preservationist would think were hope saved.

James Scott Mansion Sees Activity; Long-Awaited Renovation Starts

Look who's waking up from a 40 year nap.

MLive reported on Friday that crews were outside the James Scott Mansion on the corner of Park and Peterboro. We last reported on the progress of this ruin two years ago, when Cass Corridor developer Joel Landy reported he'd renovate the decaying mansion into condos.

Landy has been working to save the mansion, built in 1877, for years. According to an updated report on MLive, "Landy had everything in line "when the world fell apart" in 2008, he said. Now, he's found new people to help fund the million-dollar historic restoration. Once finished in late 2017 the building will house 27 apartments and a small retail space."

$100 million plan for new Royal Oak city hall complex includes retail, offices, new park
If approved, construction on Royal Oak City Center would begin this fall, be completed in early 2018
By KIRK PINHO. Crain's Detroit Business. March 22, 2016.

A $100 million mixed-use development that would include a new city hall for Royal Oak is expected to begin construction in the fall this year.

Pending city approvals, construction on the new seven-story Royal Oak City Center — which would include 30,000 feet for city government operations and about 130,000 square feet of leasable office space with 20,000-square-foot floorplates — would be completed in time for the city and other tenants to occupy the building by the early part of 2018, said Ron Boji, one of the project’s developers.

Central Park Development Group LLC, a joint-venture between Birmingham-based Surnow Cos., Lansing-based Boji Group and RAD Development Group, is the development entity for the project, which would be located off 11 Mile Road just east of Main Street.

The building, which totals about 190,000 square feet, would also include a rooftop garden terrace and event center, along with leasable space for a specialty grocery store and restaurant, Boji said.

Also included in the project plans are a 533-space, six-story above-ground parking deck, a park with an amphitheater and playground, and a new Royal Oak Police Department headquarters on the eastern edge of the site north of the existing 44th District Court building.

A public hearing is expected on the project on April 18, Boji said Tuesday afternoon.

The public-private project is expected to be financed with a mix of bonds issued by the city and a construction loan, along with tax abatements.

A general contractor/project manager has not yet been picked.

The Royal Oak office of Jones Lang LaSalle will be responsible for leasing the commercial space to tenants.

The existing city hall is functionally obsolete and is expected to be demolished as part of the project.

Detroit developer plans to save apartments, build more behind them
By Ian Thibodeau. MLive Detroit. March 24, 2016

The developer responsible for about 14 redevelopments and pumping just north of $50 million into Detroit's Midtown neighborhood is planning to begin on his newest project.

Robert Slattery, 58, said Thursday he hopes to begin the partial demolition of the 1912 house at 477 West Alexandrine sometime in April or early May. At a Wednesday night meeting with the Detroit Historic District Commission, Slattery also presented plans to build a second building in addition to the restoration on the property.

Once completed in spring 2017, the 1912 3,790-square-foot apartment building will hold six residential units. The new building Slattery plans to erect on his lot behind it will add six more units of housing, storage space for tenants and something like a private garden space between the two structures.

The planned 8,250-square-foot three-story structure will hide behind the historic building on the lot. It will sit where the original house's carriage house would have been.

Wow, that last picture of the restoration is crazy to look at. Feels like the building was always so pristine and beautiful. Nice to see that.

Well, it has some scars you can see where some of the original brick fell off, and for some reason they filled in a window, idk why. Even that "before" picture is still post-renovation, it used to be way worse.

And they didn't exactly restore everything perfectly either although it still looks great.
