NORA making 229 properties available to developers. Should be a nice boost to the area, I hope they favor doubles to help increase population density and attract retail.

Were there ever any renderings released of the Sidney Torres project in Mid-City?

Here's an article about the Torres Bayou St. John Development: http://www.nola.com/business/index.s...hared-business

It seems that the only thing happening this spring will be remediation and demolition. There are no solid plans yet for the property. Most likely retail and residential, possibly a small hotel.

Never heard of this 3 Canal Place hotel until now.

3 Canal Place

Hey Tennis, a couple of years ago (about the time of Trump Tower) One Canal Place announced a new tower called 3 Canal Place that would sit in the empty lot across from the power station. Now I haven't seen any updates about them wanting to build it recently, but I do have an old photo of what the design was going to look like from 2010. That old design was very nice! I can't find any old images even going back in archives, but I wish they would've built it! So hopefully they still are wanting to build it! It was supposed to be ~400 ft., about the same height as One Canal Place.

What a great looking building. Simple and restrained elegance. Proof you don't need a dozen different materials doing a hundred different things— a tendency so many midrise architects get trapped in. See LA lowrise developments for some of the worst examples.

Maybe this is why they sold the mall to help finance it. I had heard and seen renderings of a building a while back but this article must mean its either revived or a new proposal is meant for it. guess we shall see!

Re: 3 Canal Place

I certainly hope that this project is revived! And if its anything like the old design it would be a beautiful building and provide great infill in the area! Hopefully, along with all the other projects going on, this will be the beginning of new density and new tall skyscrapers in downtown!

I am reserving judgment. The metal window surrounds haven't been completed yet, and the brick ended up being "happy" utility brick instead of modular.

I do think the entrance will be dramatic with the grand staircase to the 2nd-floor lobby.

Funny you bring up LA as they have actually done pretty well with contemporary midrises IMO. I really love the TOD at Wilshire/Western, One Santa Fe, etc. Maybe I'm just cherry picking though...
