Northport getting a neighborhood Walmart Market.

They're demolishing the old Kmart building and rebuilding for this. It will have a gas station.

Waiting on them to finally start working in where the old Mcfarland Mall was. Supposed to have built 5 or 6 new retail stores there, but I haven't seen a lot going on.

Shoppes at Legacy Park center's first store to open in August

Quote:
The first store to open in the new Shoppes at Legacy Park retail center on McFarland Boulevard could be open as early as August.

That’s when The Fresh Market, a European-style high-end grocer, is expected to open its doors to the public, said Keith Owens of Alumni Development and Construction.

Dick’s Sporting Goods, Bed Bath & Beyond and the other anchor stores — PetSmart, DSW and Cost Plus World Market — are expected to begin opening around Labor Day and continue opening through the end of September.

The remaining, smaller stores could begin opening in October, he said.

However, all of this is contingent upon the Alabama Department of Transportation completing enough of the road improvement work on McFarland Boulevard to allow traffic to enter the complex.

“If that’s on schedule, then (The Fresh Market) is going to open in August,” Owens said.

The work began last month and involves construction of a turn lane and other work to improve traffic flow on eastbound McFarland Boulevard between 13th Street and 15th Street. That’s the stretch of McFarland that runs beside Legacy Park.

That work is part of about $5.9 million in upgrades at and near the intersection of McFarland Boulevard and 15th Street, one of the busiest in the city. Officials with ALDOT expect all of the improvements to be completed by summer 2016.
The other stuff that is set to open late September:

This is going to look really good when all of it opens. Traffic will be hell, but it'll look nice. Whatever happened to the talk of getting retail in front of the Lofts at Center Center across from this Shops at Legacy park? I was told by the City Council that there would possibly be new restaurants or shopping stores as well as possibly a crosswalk of some sort.

Hotel Indigo approved and will be built near the Tuscaloosa Amphitheater. Expected to bring 190 fulltime jobs and will take about a year to build it.

http://www.tuscaloosanews.com/articl...news/150619771

When the hell are we going to get some restaurants or new bars on Jack Warner? I thought that whole area was a flood zone, but that Hotel is going right where I thought it would have been. Why the hell don't they add some new bars or good restaurants down there? They talk about revamping that area all the time and "reconnecting to the river". Well, add something some stuff down there that will attract people. It would be awesome to go a concert at the Amphitheater, then immediately walk right across from it and eat at some restaurant.

Technically, anywhere is a flood zone if its close enough to the water. Either way, FEMA only requires mapping of 100 year flood zones, so that land must not be included in that area.

A lot of activity going on along Rice Mine Rd.

Church of the Highlands is building a campus where the ramp from McFarland hits Rice Mine.

Also, construction has begun on a building at the office park that was just finished further east down rice mine from the McFarland bridge.

Plans for boutique hotel in downtown Tuscaloosa moving forward

Quote:
n Tuscaloosa, plans are moving forward for a boutique hotel, near the intersection of Jack Warner Parkway and Greensboro Avenue. On Tuesday, the Tuscaloosa City Council voted to allow Mayor Walt Maddox to negotiate an economic development agreement with the hotel’s developers.

Chance Partners Real Estate firm is developing the project. Chance Partners President and CEO Judd Bobilin said the hotel will be of the Hotel Indigo brand, with five floors, 91 rooms and meeting space.

Bobilin also said the hotel will include a roof-top bar and on the ground floor and a full-service restaurant. “We're very excited to bring this to Tuscaloosa and have the partnership with the city,” Bobilin said.

Bobilin said once the details of the development agreement with the city are determined, the project should begin to progress. “We should hopefully get that resolved here, ambitiously in two weeks. And then as soon as we get that signed, we'll be starting construction about two weeks after that. So hopefully, by the end of July, we'll be under construction.”

Bobilin expects construction to take about a year.

Many Tuscaloosa leaders have stressed the importance of a downtown hotel for years, as a way to promote economic revitalization in the area. After years of no hotels in downtown Tuscaloosa, two have opened this year. Those are an Embassy Suites and Home2 Suites by Hilton, both on University Boulevard.
