Reilly downzoning those historic buildings to prevent demolition.

Will it work?

All discussions related to taxes, the election, whining about taxes and elections and other shite have been moved to the Chicago General Discussion thread. Please think before you post.

Until he loses those plots after the next redistricting. Or there's a suit for taking value. Or he loses an election.

What's it take to win an Alderman spot anyway?

Downzoning doesn’t prevent demolition. It would only limit what can be built after demolition. These developers sound like they are try to get leverage.

Reilly seems firmly ensconced. The easiest route is to get him redistricted into some area where he can do no harm. Sort of like what they did to Fioretti a few years ago.

According to a friend of mine who is an oppsition research and campaign consultant, about $300k on average. A surprisingly small amount of money. Though certain "choice" wards like Reilly's run well into the millions.

Maybe he could be indicted or #metooed out of existence? We could start a pool to hire a PI to find some dirt.

Maybe we could pay women to make false accusations like they tried with Muller?

Ha, I'll play hardball but not that kind. I'm sure there's something there that's real. Maybe he likes to dress up in diapers and get pooped on?

Interesting, but not official yet. If you follow the original link to the Washington Post article, the two people this is coming from still said "if Amazon picks Crystal City." But we'll see.

Whole thing is drawn out though. I think a lot of people stopped caring as much if their city didn't get picked a few months ago.

I could easily see this decision blowing up in their faces in the long run. I still genuinely believe that Boston, ATL, Dallas/Austin, and Chicago(maybe even Philly) were infinitely better locations than NoVA/DC. Sears 2.0 disaster

Lol all that says is that they are reportedly talking more specifically with one Northern Virginia location than the others and:

Quote:
Amazon has held detailed discussions about the possibility of opening its second outpost in Crystal City, including how quickly it could move employees, its physical plant and how it could make the decision public, people close to the process told the publication.
And:

Quote:
It's possible that Amazon may also be in similar talks with other cities considered finalists, the report cautioned.
So literally nothing to see here folks, as has been the case since this whole circus was announced, no one will know where it's going until it's announced.

^ Yeah. I mean for DC it's positive that there's "talks" going on apparently but even the sources this came from weren't saying it's absolutely going there. TBH though I stopped caring a few months ago about whether it went to Chicago or NYC (though I have my own opinions about where it should go). This thing has been too drawn out, but maybe that's by design. Maybe they were just too dumb to realize it would create a frenzy when they announced it last year.

Yeah, I'm over it. It all seems a bit dystopian, like the hunger games for a post-industrial society.

That article is just more stupid speculative gossip that we have already seen. I'm sure Amazon has had those exact same discussions with the other cities that are in the running. Its part of the decision making process, they need to know those figures to make a final decision. Although I personally believe that the company will anchor its HQ2 in the DC area in the end anyways.
