Ascencion will be 469 ft and Grace will be 449 ft. Unusually tall for beach towns along the Gulf.

Once completed, they should be the tallest condo towers directly on the Gulf Coast.

And of course, Birmingham is still waiting on the apartment building on Highland Ave. Should be starting soon.

I don't think they are right now. I think there were a lot of issues regarding agreements about traffic. I just remember the announcement and then silence...

Any of our Mobile forumers have any info?

At this point, I don't think these condos are are under construction... so I think Vesta is currently the tallest under construction in Alabama.

300 South Tryon in Charlotte has been topped out for a while is just about finished construction.

Which I think means the tallest under construction in North Carolina will now be the 588+ foot tall, 33-story office building by Lincoln Harris on the site of the old Charlotte Observer building. It is already on the 3rd or 4th floor of construction:

The tallest u/c in Durham is 27 floor One City Center:

And the tallest u/c in Raleigh is the 17 floor The Dillon:

Asheville's tallest is getting remodeled, and I don't know of anything over 10 going up right now in Winston-Salem or Greensboro. Charlotte has a couple more in the 10 to 20 range starting or about to start construction as does Raleigh.

In Tennessee, Nashville claims the tallest....

The 505 Building (at 45 stories and 524') is nearing completion and should open in a couple of months.

When it opens, the JW Marriott will take the tallest rising baton at 33 stories and 385'.

Hopefully, the First Avenue, two building project (two 40 story buildings at up to 510' and 425') will begin this year and supplant ole' JW.

My thoughts:

Miami Panorama Tower.. with all the density it has, it's very nice to see Miami finally getting some really tall boogers.

Nashville is in the midst of a major building boom! Love it, I was just in town recently to see the Queen/Lambert concert.

That new Lincoln Harris tower in Charlotte: What a beauty! Does it signal a comeback of post-modernism?

still crazy to me that a state as big as florida with several major population centers doesn't have a building close to 1000' tall.

In cities like Miami and Orlando the FAA restricts heights since MIA is 5 miles northwest of downtown/Brickell and the flight paths take jets directly over.
Miami has 8 proposals to build over 1,000+ feet.

Orlando is even in a worse situation since its Executive airport for small planes just sits a couple of miles due east of downtown hence no skyscrapers above 500+ feet yet.

Tampa & Jax could have towers over 1000+ feet since I don't think they have strict FAA restrictions like the other cities.
Perhaps the density or economics isn't there to build that tall.

I think (I could be missing something) the tallest under construction in Virginia is Capital One Headquarters in Tyson's Corner at 31 floors and 470 feet:

There's also Lumen at Tysons at 404 feet.

Then there's CEB Tower at Central Place which is wrapping up construction and is the new tallest in Arlington (Rosslyn) at 387 feet.

600 Canal Place, the new Dominion HQ, will be second tallest in Richmond at 413 feet. It's on floor 5 or 6 now of construction.

And Norfolk just wrapped up Hilton The Main construction recently at 263 feet.

Updating Nashville. The 505CST @ 524 ft. is complete for all practical purposes and the JW Marriott looks as if it's been downsized by 20 ft. thus yielding to the 5th + MAIN office building at an estimated (mine) 385 ft.

The ONE KVB is also my estimate. The 125 building, however, is taken from published info.
