Breaking a Sweat in Austin

Hot hot hot, but I'm working with a better camera now so it's worth it.

Good stuff! Austin looks like a fun town. It's cool to have access to the river downtown.

This thread also shows the interesting mix of old & new residential buildings in Austin.

BTW, what's the story behind that headless statue? I did a quick Google search but didn't find anything.

Great photos and tour! Thanks for sharing.

I like that large park in Austin with those green prairies where people enjoy resting and observing those fabulous views of Austin´s skyline...

And I like the variety of architecture in Austin.

Hot and high temperatures are beating Madrid this summer insistently too. Patience!

Congrats and greetings from Madrid, Spain.

In my opinion Austin's urban aesthetic isn't particularly attractive (outside the downtown area) and I'm not a fan of its overall jumbled layout, but there's no denying the awesome energy, quirkiness, and culture the city radiates. When I was there last year I definitely felt I could live there because everyone was so nice and there was such a cool vibe, despite it not being super walkable or dense. By the way, off topic, but Austin has some of the hottest people I've seen anywhere in America. Just the sheer frequency was astounding.

If Seattle didn't exist, I'd move to Austin.

There's so much open space. Not sure how I feel about it. The buildings are lovely and I enjoy all the colonial-style features and the wide walking areas.

Gorgeous pictures.

Nice pics. I really like that shot of downtown from the north. Where was that?

And I can sympathize about the heat. I went out and rode my bike 14 miles yesterday and didn't take any water with me, and today it's kicking my butt. I think I got a touch of heat stress from it. I've been chugging Gatorade today and taking it easy.

More great photos Urbannizer!

Apparently this shit is what happens in cities that don't have a long history with sidewalks:

I wish I could tell you more about that statue! I did a search as well and couldn't find much either.

The park is named Zilker Park, it's always used for concerts and festivals in Austin!

Thanks Kevin! Those shots were taken from a garage at the Triangle.

I can't go anywhere in this heat without sweating. First it's my chest, then sweat from my hair begins dripping down. By the end of the day I'm drenched in sweat! Love the warmth, but can't wait for fall/winter!

Yeah, isn't there a sidewalk on that side? I've been down Rainey Street more than a few times on my bike when it was packed, and had people walking in the bike lane in the street and with backed up car traffic. You literally can't go anywhere when it's like that. It's madness. I try to avoid it now.

Too damned hot, too damned humid, and too many bugs about seven months out of the year, I'm afraid.
