hkskyline's 2012 in TAIPEI

The W Hotel's top-floor restaurant offers delicious Chinese cuisine at reasonable prices. Taipei doesn't have that many tall buildings, so the 31st floor already commands very good views.

Songshan airport is conveniently located in the city.

Looking northeast into the suburbs. Keelung, Taiwan's second port, lies beyond the hills.

Xinyi is Taipei's new downtown, with plenty of new buildings and malls.

Wonder what that area is like in the afternoon? Nice, sunny arcade there.

Taipei's summers are quite hot. Daytime highs can easily reach 37C under the intense sun. That particular mall pictured on the bottom is well air-conditioned despite the glass ceiling.

I really enjoyed the Chinese restaurant on the top floor, and went back again for a great lunch!

Sanxia is located southwest of Taipei and is famous for its historic main street featuring Japanese colonial architecture.

There are some Chinese temples though.

The Yingge Ceramics Museum traces the history of Taiwan's ceramics industry.
