Suburban glass?
Please explain.

I know, was thinking the same thing. This building has beautiful glass, really nice add to Shanghai's diverse skyline. I hope they don't go overboard with it like New York has though...

Sure.
In many suburban office parks. The buildings have very similar facades. The smallish blue glass with little to no other design elements. Just flat glass all the way up and around the building. No horizontal bands to break up the monotany of glass. The color of the glass does not help either. That shade of blue is what is used alot in these office parks too.
But like I said. Once this tower is complete. Seeing the whole structure could change my mind. Because the design itself is very nice, and adding too much "decoration" could really make a tower like this look worse. I will wait and see for my final opinion.

^Ah, gotcha.
I think when everything is said and done the glass won't be an issue. I just walked past this monster yesterday and it looks amazing. I wasn't the only one either. A big bus load of tourists that had congregated outside of the Jin Mao all had their heads cocked upwards looking at the beast.

I really can't wait to see it in person. It was barely above ground the last time I was in Shanghai (July '05).

All over the world this seems to be the most used facade on large buildings in the past couple of years. Apparently it is the most inexpensive way to enclose a building and reduce skyrocketing building material costs.

Flat smooth panels of glass enhance the appearance of this building as far as I'm concerned. It's the unique shape and top of this structure that makes it stand out from the rest. I think a complex window design would take away from that.

These updates are confusing the hell out of me. In one Jin Mao is deff taller, even factoring in the angle, and in others SWFC is taller.

Looks like they're done with the transition. It's about to grow again.

That's exactly what I've been thinking, I saw one where SWFC looks much taller but I've seen others where it seems just the opposite. I can't quite figure out why.

I think it really depends on the angle of some of the different pictures posted the past 3 weeks. Some pics were taken from The Bund and the Puxi-people's square direction, others were taken from the Yuyuan Huaihai road direction, while still others were taken from the northern direction between Yangpu daqiao and Suzhou river area, and others from Pudong Lujiazui area, maybe South-East of SWFC and Jin Mao. Some were taken from a ground level, and others from a certain story level of another highrise... something like that would confuse even forumers who regularly visit Shanghai.

Anyone wanna add their thoughts?

I'd say in mid-July they will start building the hole.
