you can see how effective the streetwall is already. i'm still concerned with the scale of the project but hopefully it won't be as oppressive as i suspect it might.
Ya, the setback really does make a difference! Walking down the street infront of a bldg like Effort Trust Tower, it seems really cold/unwelcoming.
With the set back, it makes it seem like it's at pedestrian scale (like the old St Deny's), yet has the height still.
I don't think it'll kill the streetlife at all. Infact, if the streetfront retail in this bldg is any good (ie: a cafe/bistro-esq type of place rather than a Loan Shop) it'll make this side of the street ultra-happening.
Though I don't think there is any patio space outfront?
Does anyone know what type of retail they plan on having in here?
no clue what type of retail yet. I think there might be some small patio space in front of the shops.
The building is set back slightly from the Denningers building. We'll have to see once it's done.
I wish they would do an entire 'European Square' (piazza) type thing with their parking lot. patio space, huge trees, fountain, benches...it would be awesome.
Maybe that'll happen WAY in the future once Hamilton's core is more livable and less car crazy.
But firstly, and imo, most importantly they need to convert Jarvis "Square" into an actual SQUARE!!! Not a pkng lot!
I love that the Square has Ti-Cat flags lining it, and I think they should re-do it in a CAR-LESS, Ti-Cat(esq) theme. They could use it for pre-game parties, a pick up for the Ti-Cats Express, etc. Would be amazing for downtown & the Ti-Cats!
