It's kind of mind boggling that this is the largest city in this huge empty state. Looks so tiny but quite nice.

That is probably what is so appealing about it. An empty state is not necessarily a bad thing. Low crime rates. Less traffic. Less crowded, and plenty of room to roam, and yet in the biggest cities relative to the territory, all of the amenities you like to have in a big city. Anywhere from California, inland, away from the big cities to about the longitude of Fargo, Sioux Falls, Omaha, Kansas City areas. I think most Canadians would appreciate that, with their very large provinces, and lots of room in between most of their principal cities.

I've always been intrigued by Billings and wouldn't at all mind living there if a job opportunity arose.

Yes, I imagine the hiking opportunities in Montana are extraordinary. Is land incredibly cheap there, compared to, say, New York state?
