Windsor City Council last week approved a new aquatic centre/50m pool comlex for downtown Windsor 'Western Super Anchor' site. The site was expropriated back in the early '90's for a future large development project to counter-balance the addition of the casino on the cities downtown east side.
The Western Super Anchor site is bound by these streets. Chatham, Pitt, Bruce and extends almost to University St. the project will be around 166,000 sq. feet and will include a newly located Downtown Windsor Public Library (which will be conveniently located across from the new downtown bus terminal contructed 2 years ago and behind our art gallery). The complex will also include space for a 50m olympic standard pool w/ grandstands, a 25m warm-up pool w/ seating, diving well and a 55,000 sq. foot aquatic theme park.
The project will essentially cut off Chatham street between Church and Bruce street (Chatham continues again and ends at Carron Ave.)
Other projects around the city either completed, soon to be, or soon to be started are:
Water-retention basin at the riverfront which is nearing completion,
new permanent riverfront stage in front of casino soon to be completed,
new engineering building for U of W at Wyandotte & California soon to be completed,
new medical building at St. Clair College (soon to be completed, or is already completed)
