A fair idea if you can make it work. You may still have to pay for travel expenses or shipping costs however you get the LEGOs to each person.
As a small-time "profit-maker"* on bricklink, half my creations would not exist without the earnings I made there. (* = all "profits" have been spent on more LEGO).
Also note that since the in-store LEGO pick-a-brick is basically priced by volume and not by weight or rarity, sometimes bricklink can actually be cheaper.
