great trip. geneva was pretty, demure, well-bred. basel was kindly, sleeply, an old doctor dreaming in his study. dublin was wild and wounded; loquacious, something of the martyr there.
i'll be back in geneva in november, along with paris. got to see if i like it at length. i could wind up living there.

re dublin: it might be an inferiority complex, but if so, it's one of a higher degree than, say, that of canada. the irish are kind of an amazing people -- i mean, i'm a literary guy, so that biases me, but still -- the way with words. it's astounding. they form something of a natural, declined aristocracy. i admire them.
