The renderings aren't of the actual area...just the building.

You're reaching conclusions based on a couple of renders? That's sort of like the way so many at SSP see a photo and assume it's representative of an entire city.

This area isn't bohemian and funky. It's well established. Highland Village Shopping Plaza is 3-5 minutes away (Apple, Sprinkles, Restoration Hardware, Lulemon, Lucky Brand, West Elm, Mecox, Z Gallerie, Banana Republic, RA Sushi, Escalantes, Starbucks, Cole Haan, Crate + Barrel, and more are located here). Even closer is the incredibly awesome Central Market by HEB (imagine your best grocery store on steroids). Fresh Market Grocery will be even closer. Turn the other direction on Wesleyan and you'll find a Costco, an Edwards Cineplex, BW3s, Bullritos, LA Fitness, and more.

That said, I'd guess that 80% of the folks that move into this tower will drive 90% of the time.

The base of the tower crane appears to have been installed, with several sections appearing ready for assembly.

I'm not sure I've ever seen a 40-story highrise start construction before its tower crane went up. I guess they were using crawler cranes only.
