Yeah, someone butted in before Ouimet Canyon was figured out, so we kind of have two going at once at the moment. I was kind of leaning towards it being kind of educational as well - ie. why did you pick that location? What's interesting about it, etc.

I picked Suffield because it's one of the largest military training areas in the world, the largest in the Commonwealth, and NATO I believe. It's home to a few thousand British Soldiers every summer, Defense Research and Development Suffield (our version of Area 51) which has one of the highest security clearances in NATO. They test chemical and biological agents there, and used to test nasty shit on people. They had a bunch of monkeys they were testing something top secret on back in the 50s or 60's, when they escaped, so they had to hire people to help them round them up, but didn't tell them what they were testing on them. lol gotta love the cold war.

The large rings (gravel roads) are 10miles apart (IIRC), and were used to gauge the damage caused wen they detonated something like a kiloton of TNT back in the 50's.

It's also home to a large number of Tipi rings and Medicine Wheels dating back approx 6000 years.

I'm interesting in reading topopgraphy in google satellite. Sometimes the shadowing is near noon and sometimes it 7PM and one has to account for the time the photo is taken. So in my post below, I'd be interested in a critique addressing where I erred.

I have a hard time interpreting some of the features on the photo - it's slightly easier to see the topography if you zoom out a little bit. The roadway doesn't exactly follow a ridge. There is an escarpment slightly south of the edge of this photo though. The major thing that throws me off in the interpretation is the two dark spots south of the trail head. If you look at the topo for the site, it is clear that the topography is not responsible for them, and there are no lakes or ponds at that location.

I interpreted the two oval dark spots being akin to avalanche runs. The road is interesting. About 1 inch in, on your posted image there is a small spur heading south which looks like what might be a path leading to a small clearing (lookout)?

MolsonExport is right, it's Lake Mindemoya and Lake Kagawong on Manitoulin Island. The island in the lake on the right (Mindemoya) may be the largest island in a lake on an island in a lake. I'm not sure of the significance of the other island. Have at it MolsonExport!
