We need to keep things in perspective.

All that is happening is the replacement of an overgrown hedge. Over the years the hedges planted around the park fountain fell into neglect and were allowed to grow far too tall for its location. This has led to the hedge wall being used to shield acts of vandalism and drug dealing.

The Gage Park Master Plan is addressing the issue by removing the overgrown hedges and replanting them. Proper grooming of the hedges will prevent them from growing high enough to act as a screen while maintaining the heritage elements of the park's fountain garden.

The simple long term solution is to ensure the hedges are maintained properly. As citizens we can do our bit by being vigilant over the park and ensuring its groundskeepers maintain the park in a manner where neglect cannot be repeated.
