We have quite a few in Ottawa, though not necessarily ugly.

Minto Place (All three office towers and a hotel, although technically only one has a true mansard roof).

It's inherited wealth. And he ripped us off on bread. I don't actually buy bread but I got the gift cards and donated them to charity.

Chances are any class action settlement will come to less than $25/person anyway, and if it is more, we'll get the remaining balance later on and I'll donate that, too.

Apparently so, although this site states his net worth at a miserly 9.3 Billion dollars.

Those wouldn't be that bad if they were guarding pedestrians from cars on Rene-Levesque instead of cars from a greenfield in Laval.

Loblaws (which operates under many banners, Shoppers Drug Mart and other non-grocery and non-drug stores) is the largest retailer in Canada. Bigger than Walmart here.

Yeah, I know. It must be great to inherit all this wealth/business from your dad, grandfather, and great grandfather. But to be fair, he did build it up by overcharging bread, one loaf at a time.

Don't forget running some of the most dangerous and inhumane sweatshops on earth for their clothes. Beyond that the quality just sucks. I bought a pair of socks and a shirt from there once. Never again. The socks were thread bare after only a couple washes and the collar on the shirt wasn't even sewn on properly.

At least they're probably effective, around here bollards look like a hard hit from a bicycle would tilt them a bit.

I recall someone on this thread (perhaps it was Signal Hill Hiker) talking about a commercial being filmed at one of the local Bloblaw's...and a few days later, after filming had wrapped, the employees were informed that that particular location was being shuttered.

What a heartless jerk. Don't let his extremely earnest/dweebish face fool you: he is a heartless bean counter, and nothing more.

yep. they are working on a new album. Here is the song list:

Clocktower, Bloody Clocktower
Where the windswept streets have no name
I have found what I am looking for, unfortunately
Lack of Pride
No Desire
The End of the World
Stuck in a place I can't get out of
City of Blinding Logos
11 O'clockzilla Tick Tock
Forgettable Reno Depot
Bullet the Residence Soleil
Even worse than the Real Thing
I won't Follow
