You might want to think about what you write before hitting Submit.

People commit suicide by jumping off buildings and structures (Landmark Place and the Skyway Bridge). Facts are facts.

Just carry on rather than policing and bringing more attention to his comment.

This is a *discussion* forum. If I have a comment to make about someone's post, I'll do so. I don't know when you were appointed forum censor.

Because there’s no need to browbeat chronamut.

I am simply stating a point.

This isn't the greatest area of the city. I do believe we are all entitled to our opinions, and if we are't then what is the point of having a forum where everyone brings forth their ideas? I am sure I am not the only person who saw those so high up and people leaning over them and thought to myself "I sure hope someone doesn't topple over those". I am not saying someone specific will do it - I am simply hoping someone won't. I'd just love to see those balconies in the middle part built higher.

ahh man, that sucks.
I've seen awesome precast buildings in other cities, but here they've all been built as cheap and crappy as humanly possible. Too bad.

Sidenote: if you scroll down on the SBM page, you'll see a building they are doing in London, Ontario. If Hamilton's NIMBY groups and city staff have their way, that exact build in London would be 'too tall' for Hamilton.
Way to be ambitious.....

The current building on this site is on the City’s Register of Property of Cultural Heritage Value or Interest, and removal of it will be debated on Thursday, July 19th.

Staff are recommending removal of it from the register, thankfully. It's an awful building and hopefully we can get started on the new tower soon.

They've fenced off the building and boarded up a bunch of windows so it seems like demolition is happening soon. Any updates from people in the know?

I profess to be a bit lazy, and so without more than a Streetview research to my name on this one, what could be possibly interesting about that building.

There's beautiful 1920's era yellow brick behind the hideous blue stucco.

The stucco has been ripped off the rear portion of the building. The brick underneath doesn't look yellow to me, but instead looks like red brick that was painted grey/beige. Definitely in rough shape.

City quoted it as being historic due to it's covered up brick and surrounding buildings. There really isn't anything historic to it in my eye, though.

I'm with you.

SW corner is not "historic" either. Nor the Dollarama on the NE (formerly an Indian restaurant, in a former Don Cherry's Grapevine of long ago)

I *DO* like how the NW corner building has been cleaned up though.

I was surprised to see demolition already. The sign for the public meeting "Date To Be Announced" came down with the building.

I thought demolition permits were only issued once the site plans were approved?

They went through site plan applications at some point earlier this year. I suspect this was rushed because like 22 george, it will contain a semi public parking garage.

On a side note, the proposed building doesn't have any lower levels besides the foundation, so I expect that this will rise very quickly if it is indeed a precast structure.
