You don't have to be living in town to participate - if you're from here, know the city, that's enough. It would even be a bonus to be able to make first-hand comparisons between cities for some points.

Interesting to see that the CBC is keeping tabs on SSP.

We know that the local media here in Moncton (especially the Times & Transcript) keep tabs on us too. It's not uncommon for a topic to be brought up in the paper two days after we discuss it on the forum.

So, did CBC contact you directly Signal?

Jeddy: I don't have all those details yet, but I will tomorrow and I'll share them here as early as possible. I assume we'll be able to just choose a username and join the chat, as we could during the Mayors' debate. But I'll let you know.

Moncton: Yeah, they emailed me. The CBC knows who I am for reasons not related to SSP. And journalists usually end up finding just about everything. SSP is an easy one because it's the first hit for MANY development names, even in larger cities.

Architype: You obviously know St. John's and these issues well. If you're available at 5:45 p.m. Newfoundland Time tomorrow, please do join us!

Will try; alternatively you could post the questions here and anybody here could answer them, but that might be against the CBC rules.
The answers could then be put on the CBC site.

We can totally do that after, discuss everything with a wider circle here... during, it could be hard. I think we'll probably have to focus on the actual debate.

But we definitely want to have as many people as possible who are from or familiar with St. John's and how it's developing at the debate.

Ah I see, it's another chat-style interview and Q&A. Interesting indeed! I doubt I'll be able to make it even still, I may be out to lunch with the people I'm out of town with (hey, if they're buying why not? )

Hehehe. Oy, I hope we get a good turn-out. And I hope they still go ahead with it even if there is only three of us (and possibly Copes/Architype).

Not sure I understand the theme.
Are they saying "Newburbia" as opposed something even worse?

Edit; Never mind, I got it. lol.

Should we briefly discuss topics that we'd like to touch on? Assuming we do have the opportunity to discuss as we want. Also, is it much of a debate if we all agree? Should we actively try to present both sides even if we disagree with one?

I think we should give our honest opinion, but I don't think we should force ourselves to disagree with an issue for argument sake. I believe it's best to debate the topics to the best of our knowledge, it helps bring out the bigger issues. I, for one, will not be offended if someone disagrees with me and I'm sure most everyone here is in the same boat. I say go with the flow, everyone who post on this forum do a great job with discussing topics and articulating their arguments for and against.

I agree, we should give our honest opinion. I'm sure we'll have some disagreements, even if they're only minor, and we can make sure we share those to keep it interesting. Also, even if we agree, we'll probably always have something to add to what the others say.

Given the theme...

I think it's safe to say most of us would consider Newburbia to be urban sprawl. But why? And what solutions would we like to see?

That's probably where our conversation/debate will be most valuable to the public anyway.

I definitely think we should all come prepared with examples of developments we like, and why.

I'm not going to specifically slam any that I dislike, either. My issues aren't with specific developers or subdivisions, it's just with the overall sprawl.

I now have the link that we'll need to participate. We simply have to load this link close to 5:45 p.m. and then go for it.

I'm not sure if I should post it right here, so I'll PM it to everyone who has expressed an interest so far.

If you want to participate, and PLEASE do, let us know in this thread. It'd be great to have at least four or five us actually present.

PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE!

I think I'll pass, you guys probably know a lot more than I would about the topic at hand, but will this conversation be made public? if so, how can i access it? I would be interested to see the conversation/interview!

It's really great to see CBC reaching out to websites like these to seek the public opinion!

Posted here or on the CBC website? I also have a previous commitment at 6:30 so I don't think I would have enough time

Our wishlists are pretty much the same, remember! So I nominate you as my representative! Break a leg... or would it be break a finger..? Haha, have fun guys!
